Yes the pennines and cheviots prevent some showers getting over to the east in westerly based winds, though heavier showers stand a better chance or troughs...
big cluster of showers now heading down from southern Scotland so lets see how these get on.
Also regard to this cold spell lasting into next week it does look promising for more snow and talk of a blocking setting up at some point later in month... fingers crossed
Aye cluster leaving southern Scotland are a good bet for Newcastle etc I'd have thought.

From puddles to a covering in Boro in the space of 15 minutes. Really heavy snow. Didn't see that coming!

Radar looking good for those of a Geordie persuasion.

I thought it was just more of a lull while the upper flow changes GS.
I've been watching a couple of showers and they're continuing to track SW. I just think it's going to be a couple of hours before they hit the likes of Newcastle and even longer for Teesside.
-
Will be surprised if anyone a couple of miles or more inland don't get all snow. Possibly sleety on the coast, but with dew points comfortably below zero and temps just above, most will be fine.
-
Few flakes starting to drift down again.... All I want is a proper thick covering instead of this sugar coating
Let's not get carried away haha, having worked in Thornaby for 3 years I know how much of a snow-free zone it is! A sugar coating there is the equivalent of 6 inches anywhere else.

Now we're getting somewhere, showers beginning to move south from east of Scotland and some activity getting going off the coast of Nothumberland at last.

Looks like an intense line of snow in the north sea heading for Newcastle, Sunderland, Northumberland etc in the next couple of hours.
Don't think it's going to affect Teesside.
-
IF, which areas will be affected around midday according to the high-res ECM? Cheers.
-
It is still snowing in the new snow capital of the NE - Middlesbrough.
Unfortunately it's about 2/10 for intensity and small grains, as it has been for the majority of the cold spell.
-
The high-res models are showing an intense trough for later this evening Snowmaggedon so wouldn't give up just yet.
-
Nothing too heavy but should be set in for most of the day.
Coming down heavily at the mo, doing its best to settle.
-
Moderate sleety snow in Boro still, all very frustrating.
-
Heavy sleet at the mo IF in central Boro, turning increasingly to snow.
-
I'd say there's more snow in the Middlesbrough wintry mix than rain.
Radar looks excellent.
-
Temp 0.6. Dp -1 n humidity 79. N light snow in thornaby. Bit wet though
That should be conducive for snow when the heavier stuff hits.
I'll have your fiver at the ready anyway!
-
let's hope it gradually turns to snow for us, the met office are now forecasting heavy snow for us at 6am, might be too late for it to lay by then
That's my concern mate. I'm yet to get a covering of snow during my 5.5 years in Boro when it has started off as rain!
-
Looks to be a bit more wintryness in the mix in Boro as it has turned heavier.
Anyone further inland/higher up will do fine.
-
Don't know how accurate Accuweather is but it says temp in Boro at the minute is 1c, with a DP of -1c, so if it is rain when the heavier stuff starts i'll be miffed.
-
Snowing in Scunny, Grimsby, Skeggy and Beverley.
Sleet in Hedon and Cleethorpes.
Too close to call!
-
More in line with the NAE than the NMM are those temps NL. To have a DP comfortably below zero even on the coast bodes well for all of us.
-
Just round the corner from you Snowmaggedon, live just off The Avenue.
-
Snowmageddon, where abouts in Linthorpe are you, over towards the Dormans?
Hasn't been much of a cover here all week, very little in tact on the pavements.
-
46 feet asl here lol. About 6 miles from the coast as well so in a pretty bad spot for tonight/tomorrow but fingers crossed we get some luck as the maximum depth here during this cold spell has been 3-4cm on the grass and 1cm on pavements.

Just drove home from Sunderland to Boro. Really heavy snow most of the way, then turned to sleet as I hit Teesside. Just wet and puddles here
