  1. Is London usually this marginal for snow? I'm from Ireland and haven't been here long. Seems that no matter what direction ppn is coming from it fizzles out before reaching here
  2. Yep, we just narrowly missed it...again. When is our next shot? Thursday/Friday?
  3. Didnt even get 1cm here, it didnt even settle on the ground, just the cars, and was gone pretty quickly by morning
  4. Hopefully! I'm from the south coast of Ireland so we always get a raw deal when Ireland gets snow, so its extra annoying being in SE England but still narrowly missing it
  5. Yeah We've had such poor luck..a slight dusting last night ,if you'd even call it that, and sleet followed by rain today
  6. What do ye think for London city south? (Clapham/Brixton area) Looks like it could be close but I think it will miss us
  7. No hope for Clapham/Brixton I reckon. We're getting such a raw deal so far
  8. Ugh, rain turned to heavy sleet with some big snowflakes mixed in and now nothing at all, the place is drenched. Meanwhile NE getting plastered with snow! Hopefully our turn will come..
  9. what a waste of precipitation. If the DP was just a degree lower we would have a lovely feed of snow for the afternoon Hope things pick up properly this evening
  10. Cant believe how localised this event is! Even if it does turn back t snow here today it wont settle as the place is soaking from all the drizzle
  11. It's hard to tell if its going to settle on the ground here but the cars have a nice dusting. Snow getting heavier! Even if it's just a 1cm layer on surfaces in the morning I'll be delighted!
  12. Getting heavier in Clapham but still tiny flakes, I suppose because it's so cold? A nice dusting on the cars so far, hopefully it keeps up for while! EDIT: Flakes getting bigger now!
  13. I don't think there will be much of an accumulation as it's very light snow and the radar looks like it may fizzle out soon. Still though, delighted too see it...it's the first snow I've seen since 2010 as I'm from Ireland!
  14. Nothing at all in Clapham, London yet. Saw a few tiny flakes in the air for a few minutes out in Hampstead this afternoon. I have a feeling nothing will happen snow-wise, seems to be downgrade after downgrade.
  15. Saw a few tiny snowflakes in the air in Hampstead this afternoon, only lasted a couple of minutes though. Still, its a start!
  16. Not that cold down here at all today, currently 6.7c, lowest of 2.9c this morning.
  17. Not that I am expecting any sort of decent cold weather in the near future or this winter at all, but I would look forward to a northerly more than an easterly for this country. The last decent cold spell that brought proper snowfall down here on December 17th 2010 came from the north west
  18. GP, would this put the south coast of Ireland at risk of snowfall if this were to be the scenario? I understand that we don't usually get much from an easterly unless low pressure systems to the south interact to give some frontal snow
  19. Models still looking good today, although as others have said, some more -8s and -10s would be ideal, but there's still loads of time for it to all go belly-up or get even better, looking forward to it either way! I still cant get as excited as you guys though because even a full blown easterly can find it hard to get snow as far as Cork on the south coast. Hopefully some lows from the south might cause some frontal snow for the south coast, but way too early to be considering these things Onward and upward!
  20. The setup would need to be every bit this extreme if we are to even begin considering any snowfall on the south coast of Ireland from an easterly...so I'm really not going to get my hopes up for another few days.
  21. Today's ECM output for the middle to end of next week is about as cold an easterly as possible for NW Europe. As its still a week away you can be sure that it will be downgraded. Sad fact is, for those of us away from the east coast, to see snowfall and deep cold from an easterly we would really need an extreme setup just like that model output ie. -8c/-10c uppers etc. I suppose it's possible that it could happen but I wouldn't have faith in it til its 3 days away.
  22. Hello all, definitely liking the looks of the ECM from next Wednesday onwards, still far out but wow Even the great MT over on boards.ie is talking about the snow potential for next week! I just hope that if it does arrive that it gets further west than the favoured east coast! Exciting times ahead!
  23. Greetings from Cork where it rarely snows! Been lurking here for a while now and ye have helped me learn a lot about charts and weather watching in general It is quite disheartening though knowing how difficult it is to get any snow at all here, too marginal for both easterlies and northerlies, although we did get a couple of inches Jan and Dec 2010. Still useful and fun to keep up to date with this thread though as to even begin thinking about getting the right conditions here it pretty much needs to be widespread in the UK. I do like the trend of the models this winter so far though and in the last few days in particular, despite the chopping and changing, but things seem to be firming up for some sort of cold outbreak sooner rather than later IMO. While model watching and winter hopes in general often seem more punishing than rewarding for us all in this part of the world, be glad that ye are always far more likely to get interesting winter weather than us across the water. Anyway, bring on the 00z!
