reef Seen a newspaper report from 9th May 1938, saying that the Hull district had only recorded 3 and 1/2 inches of rain that year so far. -
Parts of Mexico, USA and Canada are going to be treated to a total solar eclipse on Monday. It will probably be the most widely viewed total solar eclipse in history with so many populated sites being in the total path such as the Forth Worth-Dallas, Little Rock, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Buffalo Parts of the western British Isles will see a partial eclipse close to sunset.

1133.6mm for the EWP since the start of July last year until the end of March An annual total of that amount would make that the 11th wettest year on record -
April 1978 was a cold month (CET: 6.5°C) with a particularly potent wintry snap around the 10th/11th that brought severe frosts and disruptive snowfalls

Some data I have on summer 1812 Derby June 1812 Warmest day: 72°F on 7th Coldest Day: 48°F on 26th Warmest night: 49°F on 14th Coldest night: 36°F on 36°F Mean for day: 60°F Barometer mean: 29.83 Rainfall: 2 inches and one tenth July 1812 Warmest day: 78°F on 9th Coldest night: 35°F on 4th Mean for the day: 60°F Barometer mean: 29.98 Rainfall: 1.92 inches August 1812 Warmest day: 72°F on 18th Coldest night: 38°F on 12th Mean for the day 61°F Barometer mean 29.93 Rainfall: 1 inch and 6 tenths -
Early April 1946 brought the first taste of summer with temperatures as high as 26.5°C recorded in the 4th at Greenwich. Manchester 1st Apr: Blue sky all day with fog in morning max: 70°F, min: 41°F Sunshine: 7.2hrs 2nd Apr: Blue sky all day max: 72°F, min: 41°F Sunshine: 9.9hrs 3rd Apr: Bright: cloudy most of the day with some light showers in the evening max: 76°F, min: 47°F Sunshine: 5.1hrs 4th Apr: Cloudy with intermittent rain during day. Thunder, lightning and heavy rain in evening especially from 6.45pm to 7.45pm Sunshine: 2.5hrs

February 1961-April 1961 was exceptionally mild but at the start of the April 1961, there was a brief wintry snap that brought snowfalls to parts of the UK. In a number of places, it was the first snowfall of the year and at Nottingham, it was the first snowfall since February 1960. It reminds me of what happened around the 7th/8th February of this year.

The sea level pressure anomaly chart since the start of September 2022 to current. Over 2000mm for the EWP in that 19 month period....and that includes a month (Feb 2023) that recorded only 16.5mm. -

Scorcher Contrast this with highly blocked July 1995-March 1996 period. I think there were about 100 days where our region recorded 0.00m of rainfall There have only been since 6 such days since the 14th June last year -

We need to break out of this god awful wretched pattern, this has been going on for 9 months with only brief breaks, the sea-level and 500mb anomaly charts from start of July last year to 28th March. . Horrific!!!!! -
