  1. Parts of Mexico, USA and Canada are going to be treated to a total solar eclipse on Monday. It will probably be the most widely viewed total solar eclipse in history with so many populated sites being in the total path such as the Forth Worth-Dallas, Little Rock, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Buffalo Parts of the western British Isles will see a partial eclipse close to sunset.
  2. 1133.6mm for the EWP since the start of July last year until the end of March An annual total of that amount would make that the 11th wettest year on record

  9. February 1961-April 1961 was exceptionally mild but at the start of the April 1961, there was a brief wintry snap that brought snowfalls to parts of the UK. In a number of places, it was the first snowfall of the year and at Nottingham, it was the first snowfall since February 1960. It reminds me of what happened around the 7th/8th February of this year.
  10. The sea level pressure anomaly chart since the start of September 2022 to current. Over 2000mm for the EWP in that 19 month period....and that includes a month (Feb 2023) that recorded only 16.5mm.
  11. Scorcher Contrast this with highly blocked July 1995-March 1996 period. I think there were about 100 days where our region recorded 0.00m of rainfall There have only been since 6 such days since the 14th June last year
  12. We need to break out of this god awful wretched pattern, this has been going on for 9 months with only brief breaks, the sea-level and 500mb anomaly charts from start of July last year to 28th March. . Horrific!!!!!
  13. Fortunate to see two species of our owls hunting and flying about near me, yesterday morning. Such beautiful and graceful birds Barn owl Short-eared owl
  14. My dad has emailed his photo of the comet he took with his eVscope last night
  15. Scorcher Still a 100mm month for the region as a whole.
  16. What a poor chart for the first weekend in April, a sub 970mb low passing over the British Isles.

  18. Just 6 days since 14th June last year that our region has recorded 0.00mm of rain (up to 27th March) Just 6 days in 287 days. About an average of 4.26mm of rainfall per day.
  19. 2nd-5th April 2021: 6.1 15th-18th April 2022: 12.5 7th-10th April 2023: 9.2
  20. July 2023-June 2024 total for the EWP is going to be something if this keeps up. If an annual total was to record the same as the current July 2023-to now total, it would put that year in the top 20 wettest years on record and we still have three months to go.
  21. Going to be another snowless March for my area. Since the frigid March of 2013; Marches 2014, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021 and now 2024 were snowless. March 2022 had just a few flakes falling right at the end of the month, Even before March 2013, Marches 2009, 2011 and 2012 were snowless. I don't recall seeing falling snow during March 2010.
