  1. No To me this is no different from the argument "are cold winters over?" which was banted about until only a couple of years ago but winter 2009-10 killed that stone dead.
  2. Easter 2012 was provisionally 0.5C colder than Christmas 2011
  3. Poor audio quality with this one but you can see a temperature table and Newcastle at 6C?! 11th May 1996 12 May 1996 Countryfile forecast, its the middle of May and they are predicting it turning colder later...
  4. 9th May 1996 and the nagging winds from the north and east continuing
  5. Hard to give a starting pointing with this but less say since 1996 and definitely evident since 2006, it seems that the Aprils of even years have been less impressive than Aprils in odd years in terms of sunshine, warmth and dryness. April 2012 is falling into this "pattern"
  6. It won't be so its a complete of waste of time. it needs to be in a Stevenson screen for a start
  7. Here's the 2nd of May 1996 forecast Here's the 4th May 1996 forecast and look at the predicted minima
  8. I wish I had started recording forecasts earlier than I did, so I would have had the forecasts from May 1992. Here's the forecast from the 1st of May 1996 and a sign of what was to dominate this month.
  9. For a change, we are seeing a spring at least with some variety and not the monotony of the last 3 springs. A warm sunny spell, we had a wintry epsiode in parts, the classic " from sunbathing to snowman making" scenario. As for April 2008, it was an interesting month for the Manchester area as that spring was generally.
  10. Here's the 25th April 1995 forecast after the northerly spell had blown itself out Here's the 26th April 1995 forecast
  11. Lol thats me!! I'm afraid my videos only go back to January 1993. I wasn't even in the country in 1981. I have seen a forecast from 28th December 1981 but I think we will have to wait to see if anyone has forecasts that far back.
  12. Friday of the 8th April 1994, was wet but it cleared during the evening and the sky had a real wintry look to it. The next morning we had a snow cover and snow showers during the morning but by afternoon they had cleared. The next area of preciptation spread southwards during the evening and this gave snowfalls in the SE overnight
  13. On the 4th April 1994, Easter Monday, that year, cold polar maritime air flooded the country giving wintry showers in many places. What is interesting was the direction of the wind flow, WNWly and not a Nly flow. This shows that even at this time of the year, wintry weather is not just restricted to proper northerly or easterly flows. I remember a band of wet snow moving through during the morning and then we had snow showers for the rest of the day
  14. Good Friday came in as provisionally 4.7C, lower than any daily CET mean recorded between 20th December 2011 and 12th January 2012 inclusive.
  15. Don't live too far away from the airport and I remember very few showers. There was an area of snow showers moving through in the first part of Tuesday morning then it was dry for the bulk of the day until evening when we had a snow shower. Wednesday was largely dry and the Thursday we had a few shoers in the morning.
  16. Dug this old footage out that I took of that magnificent comet McNaught from January 2007. Sadly from our latitude we only got a brief glimpse of this comet during the evening twilight of January 2007 before it got to close to the sun and then reappeared for viewers in the southern hemisphere. Not sure when the next brilliant comet will be but we can only hope that it will be very soon and we get the best of the view!
  17. Here's the forecast from the 17th April 1995
  18. Here is the last in the series, the forecast from the 27th August 1995 and the mention of the drought
  19. The 20th August 1995 forecast, some relief from the high temperatures but little rain
  20. It was also exceptionally dull, a dire summer month.
  21. 2006? Not that long ago, we've had two hot summers (2003, 2006) within the last decade.
  22. Here's the 10th August 1995 forecast, yet another glorious day The 11th August 1995 and a hint of much needed rain
