  1. Hi all, reports for frosty cars this AM in douglas, unable to corroborate as i wasnt in work til late and there definitely wasnt any in Peel even at 5am when my husband left for work. hope you all ok and not too chilly
  2. hi all belated report on storm that went over isle of man, storm force 10 gusts in douglas and the peel weather station measured 59.9mph just after 1900hrs, thunder lightning and torrential rain boucing off the roofs!! no reports of loss of power but the ferries didnt sail and there was lots of localised flooding. thank God i've had a new roof this year else my flat would be awfully damp!
  3. HI guys hope we're all safe! we had 2inches of rain overnight with flooding on all roads. the 12mile journey to work took 1hour! there was a 4 car shunt on the main road from Peel to Douglas (my usual route to work!) so i took an alternative route with loads of other drivers at not more than 30miles an hour and in low gear all the way! small cars, 4x4's and even vans were stuck in the floods. at least one river broke its banks, coast road at the Corony closed all morning, trees down (specially as most of the trees toppled in the hurricane force winds in January have been left to decompose where they fell). the DOT issued warnings not to travel for at least 2hours right at the start of the working week! all teams out all night tonight in preparation for more rain over night onto already waterlogged ground. stay safe guys
  4. see stormy report on "storm reports" forum. very windy and very very wet, would love to know how many mm's have fallen today but dont have a weather centre. on the plus side as the front cleared from the west the sun was just at the right angle at about 6pm to show the most fantastic site....! a true clear double rainbow! oh for a digital camera (please Santa  )

Tide Height: 3.8 metres (to local Chart Datum) Air Temperature: 13.1C / 55.7F has been down an hour ago to 12C Relative Humidity: 87.2% rained really hard on the way home at 5pm, wipers on max and still no visiblity. very autumnal!!
  6. Wind Speed: 13 Knots (15mph) Wind Direction: NE 53 Degrees Max Gust in last 15 minutes: 15.6 Knots (17.9mph) Max Gust since midnight: 25.6 Knots (29.5mph) @ 13:03hrs Tide Height: 4.5 metres (to local Chart Datum) Air Temperature: 11.8C / 53.2F Relative Humidity: 75.2% latest from the local harbour weather station, Peel Isle of Man. rained on and off all day, then cleared at about 18:00hrs to sunny shafts through big dark clouds. much more autumnal, even the trees are just starting to turn now, more so on the east coast than west though. the difference is quite noticable between the beginning and end of my 10 mile commute (!)(one side of the island to the other!) to work. 8. hi all, very envious of others with appreciable levels of snow. apparently the Snaefell mountain road (2036ft) here is closed yet again (not long open after the storms) this time due to snow and ice, but they close it in the blink of an eye! been sleeting on and off all day, but i personally havent seen any snow lying, friend resident in douglas said she woke to a skittering on the tops of cars. take care out there folks. 15. Hi all morning news reporting power cut in south of island due to big thunderstorm last night about 2am accompanied by hail heavy enough to set off car alarms, white over but hasnt lasted til morning, however mountain road remains closed (probably ice not snow now). rest of afternoon (dont know about morning lol) clear sunny and cold, apparently northerly wind and about 7C. lovely winters day heres hoping for mid january for a white birthday Spirited Stream
  16. Hi all, God Bless you all this Christmas. light sleet at 7am this morning in peel, snow visible on hilltops, mountain road and approaches closed due to snow and ice. grainy snow/soft hail at about 2pm. currently raining in Peel but the meto at Ronaldsway reporting snow showers at 5pm, so guess snowing more over the hills. will get in car tomorrow and go for a look see. lovely day first White Christmas in Isle of Man for 10 years. have a great weekend all. 17. Hi again, having a hail shower now peel west coast. yet another shower from the band tracking down the gap between SW Scotland and Northern Ireland. also can see that the big very active band of ppn over southern ireland now petering out. more of this kind of set up would be nice this winter bring on many more polar lows sitting west of SW Scotland Bless Spirited ><>
  18. Hi have had snow/soft hail/sunny intervals on and off all day here. Not laying at low levels but apparently the mountain road was closed for a time today due to snow. Aa really interesting day!! went to work at 830am, skittering over the tops but nothing much. By 930am it was snowing in st johns and i could see the hill (Slieau Whallian - Williams Hill) going white!! and the wall of ppn heading my way (Douglas) reaching us by 11am when temp dropped to 1’C. Don’t think it’s been anything above zero over the hills today. Soft hail shower at 5pm as i was leaving work and now i think mostly cloudy. Wondering what the bright radar images over southern ireland will bring overnight/tomorrow?? BBC saying rain preceded by sleet and snow, talk about covering all bases!! God bless Spirited ><>

  20. Hi all, this thread has caught my eye too!! was going to post on "Slow Watch" at some point this winter having followed both it and this board for at least two years. now got the courage to post here instead. some of the messages are awesome, with so much knowledge applied. from reading these threads i have managed to persuade my boss that we should be giving out more supplies to our clients this winter than during the rest of the year to save them having to go to either the postbox or my place of work in this possible "severe" compared to recently winter. i'm not old enough to remember 1947 or 1963 but have good childhood memories of the late 1970's and early 1980's. had to go to my mothers photo archives to pin-point the dates but here goes: mum claims that the first two things i saw when i was born in january 1972 in liverpool were the moon and snow, maybe thats why i'm a snowaholic! no records for 1979 or '80 but must have been pretty good here (isle of man) because the following year my grandfather commissioned sledges from the family joiner for my sister and i. so good sledging snow january 1981 snow january 1982 sledges again snow january 1985 and again icicles march 1986 heres hoping for more !!! bless, SpiritedStream ><>
