I like John Hammond's final sentence in that video, 'We're not expecting a return to the stormy conditions of last year in the near future'

Six years ago today I woke up to a white blanket of snow. This morning, it was a white blanket of a different kind: a thick frost. A lovely end to Autumn 2016.
Me too. Been quite a nice Autumn all round this year really.

Would be happy to take this Autumn weather at Christmas after last years awful winter, least it's cold enough to be called winter weather, this Autumn with out doubt is the best for several years, not seen the colours this good and strong for a long time. Proper cold bonfire night was just a bonus, good old style shivering, wrapped up warm affair, lovely!
Yes, makes a nice change and would definitely have this cold or colder for a few more months

Sure, from a UK perspective it's unlikely to deliver any meaningful cold or snow because of the time of year, but we're next getting excited about that. We're excited because all this Northern Blocking is helping to prevent the Polar Vortex from becoming fully established. During a month where we usually see the PV and Jet Stream gather pace and strength, we're not seeing that this year.
The blocking is only there because background signals allow for it and all signs suggest its going to stick around. Might not be great for us right now but it will be a few weeks down the line.
Completely agree. If we want a decent cold, snowy winter then we have to start somewhere and what the models are showing are as good as we can get at the moment IMO.

Gavin's latest Winter 2016-17 prediction is sadly not happy news for cold -lovers (I do include myself amongst them!).

They're not predictions at the moment, just updates on what models are showing. His prediction or forecast is usually on the 1st of every season. So his winter forecast will be on Dec 1st.

It'll be lovely to have a bit of frost and cool air next week. Hardly saw any over winter. The cooler the better tbh. Cold hating nancies can wait a bit longer lol.
