Winter. Because it's cool/cold. None of the awful stuffiness of summer and lovely dark cosy nights with a nice chill in the air.

Lots iof optimism in the model thread....then I read Gibby's summary which is the polar opposite to what some other posts are saying. I like the way Gibby tells it like it is and in an objective manner. However, I have to admit I'm left a bit confused this morning. I'm not having a go at any poster as they have all given good reasons for their thoughts, which in a way makes it more difficult. Best thing is probably leave it for another week (again!) then see where we're at.Liam Dutton keeps tweeting about a possible change to cold mid month. Maybe I'll just use that for a bit!
Best to really take a lot of the posts in the model thread with a little pinch of salt....a few of the posters know what they're on about and have no bias but some do and it's sometimes hard to choose who to believe....stick with the professionals then you can't really go wrong.

Liked: Mid Jan to mid June was quite cold and fresh.....lovely.
Hated: Summer....too warm and seemed to go on forever although had a great storm gust as the cold front moved in to end it lol.

Yes, the word mild is largely subjective but the weather at the moment is not mild. Some people use the word mild to further their weather agenda.

I think if there's no snow and cold for Christmas then the current wind and heavy rain would be my next choice. I'm sure there will be some colder phases early in the new year.
Although it should feel quite chilly in the wind.

Not bad. Quite pleased with my guess.

Maybe this thread should be pinned

Good forecast. Looks like a decent winter, cold to colder than average with possible snow chances. I'll take that. As long as it's cool/cold I'm happy. I'm sure we have some surprises in store.

I'm hoping that the snow cover is going to get a little further in the next couple of weeks. Further into Russia and western Europe with more snowfall into Scandinavia and cooling the Northern hemisphere even more giving the UK a better chance of cold.

Cold and frost is good enough for me....would love snow though.

I'm really looking forward to winter and the models tonight have not changed my outlook one bit....they have shown colder weather encroaching next week so all is looking good. Just because the heavenly charts shown yesterday are unlikely to come off it doesn't negate a winter that all we 'coldies' want. we have a long way to go and the pattern is changing. I'm happy with things as they are now compared to a couple of weeks ago when all we seemed to be looking forward to was an endless zonal pattern..I'm optimistic

Met office response to the winter story in the Daily Express today

Normal winter will do me. Some cold, some snow, some frost, some rain...

Lovely fresh morning.....2.0 degrees. Frost and a coating of ice on shallow puddles. Fantastic.
Oh how I've missed thee......

ive written of this winter already I think solar activity has certainly destroyed chances this winter but we still have the next solar lull to come at some point so as this winter goes vortex is going to be very intense and not in a favoured area.
and by mid novemeber we will know winter is going to be a pretty above average winter with plenty of wind and rain anything settled will be short lived anything cold will most likely be from arctic cold snaps instead of cold spell as depressions pass through so most wintry stuff will be mostly restricted to the north.
It'll be a brave man who writes off the winter before it's even started.

It's not going to stay warm and wet forever. Things can and will change.

18.5 indoors and windows wide open...more comfortable than it was a couple of weeks ago. I like it to be a little cooler though.
