Hi, with the hoped for storms forecast early next week, I have thought about trying to get some decent shots of it if I`m lucky enough to see any at night!!
So, got a remote control and tripod sorted, question is what lense should I be using. I guess a wide angle would be best, what do others use?
Camera is a Eos550D, lenses I have at the moment are 18-55 zoom and 55-250 zoom. Out of those 2 I would assume the first would be more suitable?
Any other tips? Plan to start with iso 100, F7 and 20-30 secs.

Bring on the heat I say... It sounds silly.. But just imagine how well our crops are doing at the minute. Agreed.. If we don't see some kind of brief thunderstorms it would not be all so good.. But going by tonight's models... It looks like Heat thunderstorms HEATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
My crops are dying!!

A view from near Ciren about 5 mins ago. Could do with some rain as the wheat in the foreground of the shot is dying!!!!

Had decent Cu building all afternoon here, should be gliding!!! Not towering but quite bulbous/bulky, mainly North/east/south of here, West is all blue (I guess sea air up the Seven)
-
-
A lot of cu around here, some building up very nicely, especially over towards the Marlborough Downs direction
-
Heavy snow here, around 2cm settled so far, fields/cars/roads all white.
-
Heavy sleet here earlier although seems to have turned back to rain now, temp 2.1c.
-
Have light snow grains here, temp 0.2C
-
Agreed, bitter out there today, not fun when you are working outside!! We did have some light snow this morning but only small grains.
-
Very slight dusting here, light snow at 07.00, stopped now! Seems the main band was more N and E of here! Lets hope we see some this week!
-
Dank and cold, bit of sleet first thing here temp currently 3.5C, rain now eased off, spoke with my father early doors in Rugby, said it was snowing heavily up there!!!
-
Went for a drive up Birdlip today, and there is still a heap of snow by the roadside and in the ditches from 22nd/23rd Jan. I had been told there was some there, but hadn't believed it!!
Yes, I was up there today as well, weird seeing it still, hope we get some more before this Winters out, fingers crossed for the weekend!

Temp is 1.4 here too! Light flurries of snow, nowt heavy, still have total snowcover on the fields

Definitely hoping for a drier and warmer 2013. Although grass growth was good, crops were bad and we had to keep bringing cattle in because they were churning the fields up. Poor for wildlife and my hobbies of wildlife photography, butterfly hunting and bike riding.
+1, Am all arable here and it was dire, some wheat never even got cut, ground too wet, autumn drilling a struggle, crops don`t look good for next year, 50% OSR scrap and half the farm going into Spring Barley/Spring Wheat, if it ever dries up enough!!!

Snowing here quite nicely now, a bit of a dissapointment last night, snowed heavily from around 6pm onwards, went to bed expecting a right dumping but this morn only around a further inch or two max, very wet snow, maybe a bit of rain during the night?
-
Just started here, light flakes, very similar to Friday.
-
Had very small flakes for the last hour and a half, still falling, temp 3.0C, humidity 82%, sun poking through at times.
-
Just in, been snowing lightly for the last 4 hrs, temp down to 0.7c wind picked up, have a nice dusting circa 1/2 inch. Hope you all get some esp those in the far SW, will be hard to get to sleep this eve!!!!
-
Been snowing fairly steadily here, settling on the fields although can still see the crops (at the moment!) Off to the pub, snow plough duties tomorrow I suspect!!
-
Well I don`t wish to put a dampener on things but I have just put the snowplough on the tractor this morning, so that`ll scupper it!!!!!! Rain all round!!!
But in all seriousness if we do get a good dumping I think the wind is going to produce some amazingly deep drifts, it can be pretty hard work trying to keep roads open in these situations almost impossible if the snow is blown off the fields.
I hope you all get what you wish for, am hopeful here in the Cotswolds that we have an epic weekend!!
-
Very fine snow falling here, started 5 mins ago, temp 0.8. Looking forward to the week ahead!
