Arborfield is a small village outside Reading and we live on the village edge surrounded by open countryside. I think the Reading Met office / BBC temperature is based on the town centre. My weather station recorded a minimum last night of -5.2c before the cloud and milder air arrived. At 6.30am this morning it was already +1.5c.

Here are some pictures of the storm damage from yesterday. One of the main branches of this ash tree were broken off and also slightly damaged the roof of our shed. I am not certain, but I think this must have happend when the squall line came through as it produced a 58mph gust on the roof of our house. I would agree as we had our strongest gusts in Arborfield as the squall line passed through about 6am and Polar Bear commented on this in her neck of the woods.

BBC radio Berkshire reporting the worst of the wind will hit our county around 8 am which is worrying as it's ferocious out there now. Just want it to be over.- 1,436 replies

Pretty impressive lightning and thunder here in Arborfield near Reading. The rain is intermittent at the moment , has been heavy at times over the last 15 - 20 minutes. Lost our satellite signal briefly. -

Not strictly weather related but just spent 20 minutes in the back garden star gazing under cloudless skies and managed to spot three lovely shooting stars. Worth a peek if you have time but it is chilly! -
We have had several more heavy downpours this evening but none lasted more than 5 - 10 minutes but the rain was very intense. I drove back from Chippenham down the M4 today at lunchtime through a thunderstorm and within the space of a mile or so left torrential rain to be back in sunshine with a dry road. Interestingly the temperature in Chippenham when I left in the storm was 16C and was 23c when I got back to Reading in the sunshine.

Morning all. Heavy settling snow here in Arborfield near Reading. Anyone know what it's doing in Newbury as my boys are supposed to be playing football at 9.30am?

Morning all, a light dusting here in Arborfield last night. Settled on cars and side roads but virtually all gone now. No precipitation at the moment but it sounds like we may get some more moving up from the south east.
