  1. In response to Jackone's question there's a comment on Cryosphere Today:

"We are recovering from a server disk failure and hope to be updating images and timeseries graphs in the near future. Thanks for your patience." (http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/)

Does seem to be taking a very long time to recover, bit like the ice really!

Back up & running today - showing a decent recovery in ice since it went off-line

  2. The experts have predicted a colder winter than last year, which isnt suprising as it was the warmest on record last year. The snow is predicted about he same, if not slightly higher.

If you want to buy a place in Banff you have to work in the town. But there are some places nearby where you dont have to. Canmore being one, exshaw another.

Thanks for that. It was -30 the first time I went to Banff, quite a shock to the system, but absolutely loved it.

Never really been to Canmore itself, just to the outskirts for some husky sleding

  3. I am in the process of setting up my own website and putting it on there, rather than someone elses

Shame its not ready as the snow has started. 10oC temperature drop in 1 hour this morning from 1am to 2am this morning, with snow and increase in wind starting at 4am. Still going stong here in Canmore, Alberta. Pics to follow

I'm extremely jealous of you - fortunately I've been able to book a holiday in Banff this Christmas, after several years of not going. Are the experts generally going for a cold winter in Alberta? I just love stepping out of Calagary airport & getting that first hit of insanely cold air. It just isn't the same if it's hovering around freezing, or above.

Off Topic, but I'm looking to buy a place in the area, but have heard that only Canucks are allowed to buy within the National Park - do you know if that's true?

  4. Hi everyone, just checking in for the winter, having made little or no contribution last winter! :)

Just wondering - should we also be keeping an eye on the positive anomaly near the azores (actually, west of Portugal, but it's close!!), as this would surely encourage the NAO to remain negative.

Is this as important as having a cold GIN sea anomaly, or just a red herring?

  5. Has been snowing since at least 9am today, heavy & light. Still seems too warm to accumulate.

For the record, we had 1-2" of level snow by yesterday morning, and it continued to snow steadily until the evening, but as it did so, the lying snow gradually melted. So now we just have the odd patch of snow in the garden, which obviously cannot be measured.
