  1. Yes but the classic blizzards of past have mostly come from SW Atlantic fronts meeting the Easterly block. Stalling LOW's skirting the channel have been dynamite for Kent and Sussex!
  2. Phil Avery's latest bulletin includes his "concern" as fronts march east at the weekend. "National emergency, quick - put the army on standby!"
  3. For those with "gut feeling", I also have a strong feeling that we might be on the verge of a memorable Winter. The METO are predicting a cold Feb. A "1947" is a little too hopeful but maybe, just maybe!!
  4. Reports from the METO indicate disruptive snowfall but then turning to rain as less cold air moves across the country (except very high ground). Not sure if this is implying a breakdown of the cold block or just an Atlantic attack. Seems at this point a marginal call so we'll have to wait for further updates I guess. Must be a nightmare for the METO at the moment.
  5. Just popped in here to see how the excitement is building at the front door so to speak. Expectations building in most of the forums. Let's hope we get an event to remember; by George, we deserve it!
  6. Unless we are on the cusp of a 1947 scenario which didn't begin until as late as 21 January! Well, you never know.
  7. After all the egg on face in December and the disappointment so far, I think that is wise.
  8. Make it 10cm and I'll join you for a .......... snowangel.
  9. We need to see that LOW tracking across France to be further South or rain/sleet will be a threat for at least coastal areas.
  10. Weekend looking marginal and the battleground for snow being the whole of central Britain. Many may be disappointed again! We really need more cold uppers feeding in from our NE and E to give us some real winter potency. This knife edge stuff is beginning to get tiring!
  11. Looks like Kent will be slapped late in the afternoon by that heavy band moving South across East Anglia.
  12. Very frustrating that we don't have a brisk NE or E because that would have given us heavy snow showers and maybe more prolonged falls right across our region. What a pity since we have the cold air mass in place but no decent flow and only the extreme fringes of the E coast of Kent are getting any of the white stuff. Now we are looking West but I fear we may get rain or sleet at most unless we get a colder reload from the E and that doesn't look on the cards at the moment. Of course it is on a knife edge again with occlusions moving in but what we need is a bit more luck - and we aren't getting any!
  13. Here we again in great anticipation for heavy snowfall. Let's hope we get massive blizzards sweeping in from the SW right across Southern counties and into our area with heavy drifting. I always remember the winter of 63 as a young child and the drifts were so high (Brighton) that they reached the tops of petrol station roofs - incredible memories. Fingers crossed!
