    Xmas Lights

    Why is it when you pack away your Xmas lights from last year they work perfectly? You pack them away in a nice tidy bundle, but when you come to get them out, the Loft Fairies have been using them for nesting and they don't work!
    So you spend 2 hours finding the bulb that doesn't work and then when you put them on the tree they fuse throwing the whole house into darkness.
    This is has been my morning. I'm off to Focus to buy a new set. I have no doubt the same will happen next year
    Still it will look nice. Hopefully. :unsure:

    Well it's been an odd week, snow Monday, ice Tuesday, wet since.
    Home life is good, with my new PC coming tomorrow morning. Thanks to AOL messing up, i have a new router (£80) for free working, meaning top speed broadband. EXCELLENT
    Work, well thats a different matter. For reasons I can't go into, i've spent 3 hours with the police today. Thankfully nothing wrong with my Parking Lads and Ladies, more helping for a neighbouring force in an enquiry. I've been able to talk to Daz about it (thank god I've got my rock), but it's worrying and hopefully I've been able to help them.
    Mind you I have made a lovely discovery this week. MINCE PIES WITH BRANDY BUTTER> :unsure: .

    Snowed In

    Well what a day!
    Put GMTV on at 6am to hear the words snow on the Peak District today. Looked out the window to NOTHING, but icy windowscreen.
    Anyway got to work for 730, and thought nothing of it, other than, a long Monday ahead. Then I got the call that changed the day.
    "Phil it's me, you'd better come home, it's snowing badly". Thanks Daz i thought. And to be honest, the roads out of Rotherham were clear. Started thinking dark thoughts like "idiot getting me home, theres no snow". But as I went through Stocksbridge (snowy roofs) Midhopestones (snow on the walls) and onto the Woodhead Pass, I thought, "OK it's not good, but nothing to give me problems".
    Then I got on the road to Glossop and home. I have never been so scared in my life, so much snow, lorry nearly going into me, no grip, anything. After 6 nasty/near misses, I abandoned the car at the end of the road and walked home.
    "Told you it was bad", was Daz's comment. My thought was to grab the malt whiskey I was keeping for Xmas. Drank 2 rather large glasses, to stop the shaking (not just the cold). Had brought some work home did that in an hour , and took the dogs out for a walk.
    Took the following photos hope you enjoy them. As for work tomorrow. With 4 inches of lying snow and -4c for tonight, I won't be going in early..........

    Stomach Bug And Snow

    I'm off sick today, got a nasty stomach bug, of which the details are just too gruesome to explain. However it is nice not to worry about people ringing me and moaning at me........
    SO, the burning question is, will it snow? Managed to get the dogs out for a walk yesterday on the Woodhead railway line, and even our friends who can with us couldn't believe just how cold it was. The hills have got a "blue" look to them at the moment, and the last time they looked like that was February. We had 25 cms then, and I feel that the same could happen again by Thursday.
    If it does- then I'll post some pics.
    Back to me boiled water, hey it's all fun! :unsure:

    Sums up my day. There was a bad accident last night on the Woodhead Pass and one this morning on the Snake Pass. You could see all the flashing blue lights from tescos car park at 630 this morning.
    I decided to take it really slowly on the back roads, but of course some plank decided that 30 mph on an icy road wasn't fast enough. So he over took me. Plonker I thought (you know the real word I thought). Get around the next corner only to find the Vauxhall Vectra half in the wall, half on the road. Got out, warning triangle out, ran police and check the guy out. He was fine, think it was the shock for me, but i swore at this guy so badly. not a nice thing to do, but he was so lucky to escape with this life. IF he'd spun theo the other way he'd have gone down a 100 ft sheer drop and certain death.
    Anyway quick trip to Rothy Police station for my statement this lunchtime (Glossop police said that would be fine), but summed the day up. Poo from the start.
    Ah well Friday= wine. And Gin. BOY DO I NEED IT! :unsure:

    Sleep

    Ever get a week when you've worked yourself to a standstill? I am so tired tonight it's not true. Comes from having no money for car parking---- pay day at midnight yippie. However I've been getting up for work at 530am all week as a result just so I can get free parking.
    Weather was really icy this morning, and I did skid on the back roads to the Woodhead pass, luckily I did keep my speed low.
    Left work at at quarter to four tonight, as I thought the roads would get worse. I was right, just had the sea king overhead. That only means one thing, an accident on the Woodhead. Given the frost outside now, I'm not surprised. That road is a nightmare even in good weather, just hope nobody's been killed.
    Oh and it's Little Britain tonight. Or in my case, tomorrow night on DVD after a few jars

    I had to bring some work home tonight, well actually it's 3 months filing. Tasmin (my little 18 month old little staffy cross) decides to help Daddy and promptly shreads August's records..........
    The fact that it's all letters of complaint is quite funny, and she's still chewing on letters as I type this somehow makes it even better.
    My boss will be happy tomorrow when I explain this in the monthly meeting. Could be P45 time!

    Brass Monkeys

    Today was the first day I actually felt cold during the day. Well actually it was bloody freezing outside the registry office at work as I was having by afternoon fag behind the bins . Mind you it was 4pm and dark so I shouldn't have expected any different.
    The funny thing is, is that as i came over the Pennines tonight, it seemed to get warmer. Now I'm not one to get my markers out, but when I left Rotherham it was cold and I needed to do my jacket up fully, but by the time I came into Glossop, I could have the window open.
    Even the small minded High Peak Radio claimed it was going to be 12c tomorrow, before blasting out Chesney Hawkes at 605pm. Now after a long day at work, thats just what you don't need!

    First Entry About Me

    Right here goes.
    I've been reading Net Weather for some time now, and only came across the Blogs last week, what a great idea, I thought, I'll start one.
    So who am I, and where, what etc. Well my screen name says it all, I'm Phil and I live in Glossop in North Derbyshire. Actually I live in Dinting which is 2 miles from Glossop, but who's spliting hairs! I live with my partner Daz, who's I've been with for some 4 years now, and we have two dogs, Will and Tasmin. Oh and 3 cats.
    I'm orginally from Plymouth in Devon, and we moved north because of work. I work in Rotherham, in South Yorkshire, as the manager of the parking attendants there. OK, this could make me the most hated person on here, but I do seriously enjoy my job, not least as I have the BEST drive to work over the A628 Woodhead Pass every day. On a clear day you can see as far as Hull, Leeds, Huddersfield and Manchester. On a bad day, you're lucky to see your bonnet! Daz works in Manchester as a lawyer, so if it's raining or the weathers bad there (ie snowing), he emails me at work and I set off home.
    My house is just on the Peak District National Park, nice and high up with lots of lovely walks for the dogs. Took the dogs out this morning on the old Woodhead railway line and we had our first real frost of the winter last night. I have strong feelings this winter is going to be a rough one, not least as the weather was just too settled in the autumn.
    Anyway must get on- kitchen to clean, shirts to be ironed for next week, oh and Eastenders to watch as well. It's all fun you know!

    I was very naughty last night.
    It envolved a BBQ- a bottle of vodka, 4 very close friends and a camcorder.
    I'm not the one in hiding today.
    The neighbours are a bit surprised at certain activities coming from our garden last night.

    Day 4 and sickness

    Day 4. Still going strong.
    Work busy, but only as member of staff off sick - so team of 9 was down to, well me and Gay my temp.
    So did well -no fags no cravings just worked hard. And yes had 2 pints after work as a treat tonight.

    So now got through half the week - fingers crossed- have we broke it?

    Odd beast. Yes you can be become friends with people you know very well and love, but equally out of the blue, someone clicks on your profile and asks to be your friend.

    Nothing unusual, until you realise that this person generally made your life unhappy via bullying some 15 plus years ago. OK they may have changed as we get older, but do you accept them as friends????

    Bit of an odd one that.......
