  1. Still no thaw of lying snow still from last Wednesday and Friday. Most urban areas it has melted but the grass and country there is still lots. Not bad really, despite the lack of falling snow this week. And wow at the video from the 1990 blizzard.

  2. Just back from the Peak District, just past Leek. The road was supposed to be closed to Buxton but was clear. As were most side roads, the farmers have been busy. The wind chill was awful. Knee deep+ snow in parts, the drifting is quite severe. Will post pics later.

  3. Where was the forecast freeze last night? Left work in Quinton and there was about 5cm on the ground. Get back home where I expected a good covering as the radar showed snow overnight and it was a mess last night when i left and its slush tastic.

It must have really rained hard to get rid of the snow cover we had! Gutted.

  4. Took me nearly 2 and half hours to drive into work, dropping my son off on the way. 15 miles, including the school drop in a village on my way. Left at 7.40, arrived work 10.10. There was an inch of snow though once upto the outskirts of town at 100m more like two inches. I just got back from Norway at midnight. Pathetic what happens to the roads and drivers.

Same problems here on the roads this morning. People were driving so slow that they were not getting the momentum to get up the various hills and banks and so clogged the roads. On the opposite scale lorries jacknifed everywhere and some were speeding and span off the road.

Oh and turn off anti skid functions as I discovered in the Citroen DS3...it helps stop wheel spinning which has been an issue with such a powerful car that is Diesel. My Citroen C2 is always a beast in the snow though.

  5. Impressive fall in the end in Stoke, particulary where I am north of the city towards Leek. 10cm on the grass, less on pavements due to a thaw yesterday and 15CM+ on the higher elevations where I walked the dog today around 10 minutes walk away.

I'm guessing Buxton has done well, since on Boxing Day it was deep down there and we only had a few CM here, which seemed good at the time, but this has surpassed that. I think its the second deepest snowfall in my 7 years up here.

I'd be tempted to go to the Peaks but I know the roads were horrific earlier. Hoping for some clearance by Sunday to get out and about with the dog.

  6. A dusting on top of what was lying here in Quinton, Birmingham. Back in Stoke there was a few CM when Ieft particulary on grass but it wasn't cold enough to freeze. I do worry the melt rate was too quick especially with temps tomorrow rising. Not sure how that band will do later.

  7. The earlier covering is going in Stoke. Gone from roofs & melting elsewhere. Doesn't look much like a top-up, everything's circling us.

That is sad to hear. It was a lovely icing sugar powder snow when I walked the dog this evening, very pretty. Here in Birmingham its wet snow but nothing substantial. Think the PPN is furthe east.
