  1. Thank you Tamara for your reasoned, informative posts. They are really helpful to all in our region.

It has been quite a nice afternoon here. A mixture of blue skies and white cloud, although as darkness began to fall some dark clouds were appearing on the eastern horizon. It is realativey still as well.

The temperature is 5.8 and did feel a bit chilly when I went out into the mud bath/ garden a few minutes ago!

  2. Just like to add my thoughts and best wishes to BJkent and SussexJules. Having been through something similar with my Mum a good few years ago, I hope you can keep things positive, it does help, and I wish you both the best.

Katie, I hope things are not so bad as they first seem, and that you have a good weekend with your family.

We have had a rare bit of sunshine here this morning - quite a shock!. It had clouded over now and the wind is beginning to pick up. Awaiting the next rain to see what happens to the river near here. The fields are under water again, so it will not take too much to flood again.

  3. So glad to hear the good news about your daughter Chilly Milly. I wish you and your daughter all good wishes on the road to recovery for her.

It is still raining heavily here. River Uck is on flood alert, but would not be surprised if it's raised to a flood warning at some time if this continues for another few hours. Looking at JPs charts it's not looking good for the weekend is it?

I was looking at pictures from Swanage n Dorset where we go on holiday every year and could not believe how high the sea level had got to come up over the harbour wall. We have had it pretty bad here, but the West Country has been really battered. I feel so sorry fir those who have had their houses and businesses flooded.

  4. Well, the storm has arrived here in our part of East Sussex. It was quite nice first thing, but has deteriorated rapidly in the last 2 hours. It is lashing down and the gusts are making the house rattle! Not good if you are out and about. Just heard on our local news that the old Brighton pier has split in two. These continuing storms are causing such havoc across the whole of the southern part of Britain.

I feel so sorry for people who gave had their homes damaged by the floods and winds.

If you are out and about this afternoon, take care.

  5. Morning CK. Really interesting reading your post this morning. Especially as it was so personal to you. Whenever I read accounts like this, the thing that strikes me apart from the bravery of all those who fought, is how young they all were. My sons are 23 and 16 and firstly the thought of them fighting fills me with dread ,and secondly, that young people seem so immature these days compared to these brave lads that you have written about. That is no disrespect to my 2 who are really lovely young men and take care of me really well,, but I do wonder if they have the same sense of responsibility that older generations had.

Anyway, back to the weather. There is actually something bright and shining here this morning - I think it may be sunshine! Can see patches of blue sky from my bedroom window. We had so much rain here over night that I have water lying on the patio and I think a moat may be forming! It is quite calm here at the moment, but I think the high winds are set to reach here by lunch time.

Batten down the hatches again, and have a safe day everyone.

  6. Good morning everyone.

Wet, grey and misty here. Temps risen to 4 in the last half hour, but it's really murky with a horrible persistent drizzle.

Going to meet a friend for lunch and she has just sent me a message to bring wellies( she lives at the end of a country lane) as the ground is so wet! Wondering if I should take an inflatable boat as well just in case!

    Have a good day all.

  7. Good morning all.

Well, disappointed to get up and hear rain on the conservatory roof as I came downstairs! It's 2.6 here but the precipitation is falling as icy rain.

Glad that some areas had some snow, just not our turn. Oh well, I shall remain optimistic that we might see some flakes of snow sometime before spring arrives!

Have a good day whatever you are doing, and be careful on the roads as they could be icy, as just heard on the radio major delays on M23 around Gatwick due to a multi car pile up.

  8. Good morning everyone.

It's grey and miserable here this morning and felt fresh when I let the dog out this morning. Weather station reading 4.9 . It is also very still - the calm before the storm perhaps? Birds are all on the feeders and eating the berries on the cotoneaster, so it looks like they are stocking up.

Have parents coming for lunch, so busy day cleaning and cooking.

Have a good day whatever you are doing, and keep our fingers crossed that maybe we might see some of the white stuff this week.

  9. Lovely to wake up to calm sunshine this morning! View from bedroom window blue sky and a few fluffy white clouds! Not seen that in a while.

I love lazy Sunday mornings reading the newspaper and not having to rush! Youngest son off out to Brighton and the oldest and I might take the dog to the coast for a walk, then back in time for a roast dinner. Perfect!

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing, and enjoy the sunshine whilst it is here.

  10. Been reading through the thread today, and realised what a great bunch of people you all are!

I think we all hope that our children (and us "grown up" too) have someone in their lives as well as their parents, that gives them the self confidence to believe that they can achieve their goals and dreams in whatever field that might be. Everyone has a contribution to make, whatever their starting point may be. I am always saying to my boys that we all can't be the same, and it is not wrong to be different from the next person. I hope that all of those that are having or experiencing trials at the moment get through them and come out the other side.

On a weather note, it has been a really mucky, murky day here. Varing degrees of rain and just plain miserable! Had to finish off the Christmas chocolate just to get through it!( well, that's my story and I am sticking to it!) just hoping that the incessant rain will stop at some time, and be replaced by colder, clearer weather and looking a JP's charts we need to keep, our fingers crossed!

  11. Morning everyone.

Can't believe I am looking out my window at frost on cars and roofs and it is actually not raining! Temp is - 1.2 here and it almost seems impossible that by later today we will be back to our default setting of wind and rain!

I would think the roads will be pretty slippery with the ice forming on them, so take care if you are out early.

I am going to enjoy a cup of tea, read the paper and look at this almost winter landscape whilst I can!

    Have a good Sunday.
