  1. Agreed . the snow precipitation over south Scotland is building a little and heading SSE over i believe West Yorkshire, Derbyshire, West Nottinghamshire. Much now further east than predicted. Whether it holds any real intensity will be found out in the next 2 hours, but hopeful of some snow arriving this ecvening in Chesterfield Area

  2. Thanks Mark for all the information on the high level roads around Matlock, Darley Dale. You have put a lot of time in that info and i am sure it will be appreciated by others as well who are travelling in that area this evening or tomorrow

Regarding the weather. Its started to snow again in Chesterfield. Its very difficult what to make of the radar. We have precipitation in our area that seems to be not moving a great deal and intensifying every now and then. Generally this weather is being fed from a south easterly source ( still building over Norfolk and moving west).. still more to come but how long for!!.

  3. hope your well in Snowy Derbyshire, been out again, really bad on the tops, made it to turn off to Longcliife but did,nt fancy it anyway after 150mrts road was completly blocked. Same with roads over to chesterfield, again cars buried, and tractors digging them out, bitter windchill, struggled to hold camera longer then 1 min.

met somone in peugoet 106 ?? it got stuck and held me up for 10 mins, blowing snow from fileds drifting arouind the car nearly caused me to get stuck.

managed tp park up at main junction and went walking on top of drifts at wall height, not long, to cold.

vidoe shortly, son has uploaded it to you tube, OH and its snowing heavy again, get in there.

Do you know what the roads like from Chesterfield to Matlock. The snow seems to be setting in again over there. Snow virtually stopped in Chesterfield but snowing readily i think over that road
  4. This event is now stuttering to an end here. Its virtually stopped snowing so off for a walk to enjoy these snowy scenes. however there may be one last pulse of slightly heavier stuff to our SE which is heading sporadicly NW.The best areas now for still some reasonable falls would be Worksop to Sprunehorpe

    Temp-0.5c

  5. Precipitation areas much more broken now, I should imagine for North Midlands only light snow for rest of day, theres nothing much to our south east to bring heavier precipitation and the fronts are now weakening ( pressure rising too). Its been a great event for the end of March, and most central areas have had appreciable falls at some stage. Hills particularily badly hit. Temp here still below freezing and possibly more snow showers early next week with the cold weather lasting at least until Easter

  6. will need a 4x4 if on side roads, also main road is tricky, even after snowplough and grit wind is blowing snow back in so to speak

not good then for my toyota auris. the usual problem up there is the wind blowing snow off the fields causing drifting. Do you know if the road that passes Scotland Nurseries is passable. Main road from Chesterfield to the hospital is only just driveable allowing only one car at a time down the tricky hill at Hady

The worst of the snow sems to be over in our area but 20 miles east looks a different matter looking at the radar... plenty more to come there

  7. It looks like that's it for any really heavier snow in this area tonight. Favoured regions for the next few hours look to be on a line from Cardiff to Northampton. The precipitation in that area is intensifying just needs to be a little colder. Theres still not much to indicate any widespread and heavier snow from the north or north west coming our way

Signing off now on what been a very good day for this locality

Temp 0c and light snow which should go for a fair while yet

  8. Agreed, we've probably fared the best out of all the towns that aren't on high ground.

I feel sorry for the Leicester area. To the east of Leicester has been a breeding ground for a lot of the snow for our part of the North Midlands, and Leicester seemed to have missed the lot. It looks spectacular for the end of March outside and we still have some light snow falling. Temperatures just about at freezing as well now.

  9. I'm sorry to be 'that guy', but when is this supposed to be intensifying? I've heard a few different times mentioned.

If you have a look at the radar there is some intensification taking place well south and particularly south south east and its moving north. Whether it will effect us remains to be seen. To be honest I haven't seen anything that convinces me today that heavy stuff will spread in from the Irish Sea.. to me if we are to get heavier snow it has to come from south of us as it has done all day. Interesting to see what happens though

We have done well today whatever happens overnight

  10. Just had a walk outside and some beautiful scenes. Snow on all trees, 3 inch level depth across the lawn, and still snowing steadily. I am supposed to be working at Tansley, Matlock tomorrow. I feel that's a bit unlikely from the comments on this thread.

As regards snow this evening. There is still lots of precipitation in our area(not as heavy as earlier)and I am sure we will keep have intermittent snow but intensification is required from the south west to improve our area for significant snow later this evening and overnight

  11. temp now 0.2c and all snow falling is sticking on all surfaces. The snow is intermittent now, sometimes heavy and lots more being sent up from the south east midlands. Its similar to a streamer beginning Leicester to the High Peak with pulses of heavy snow. Areas around Matlock where I work have substantial falls and roads are treacherous

  12. There are bands of heavy snow over many north midlands area but no widespread organised precipitation as yet!! the next 3 hours radar watching could be the key to the size of this event.

Another heavier spell of snow is just approaching our area again pushing up from the SSE with more to follow. Also bands of precipitation from a front pushing northeast out of Wales

Something of interest taking place in southwest England, not sure whether this will come in to the mix overnight

  13. SP Its always difficult to predict the amounts of snow but the potential for something exceptional exists. Certainly the next hour looks terrific and the way its panning out we could have periods of heavy snow all evening and night. A lot depends whether the system to our south west stalls and intensifies over this area. It is expected to do so and intensify.

  14. Persistent and sometimes heavy snow now and settling on most roads now. Temperature now 32.8 and dew point 30.5. another pulse of heavier precipitation over Nottingham heading our way, and the front to our south west is intensifying and moving in as well pushing snow from that direction too. exciting times in this area. I am now really expecting something special to develop.
