  1. The data is starting to come in again at the moment, so there'll be a bit of a period of jumping around as the system catches up (they're sending quite a lot of files at once, in a random order).

  2. The Met Office have come back about the radar, they're experiencing a network wide issue with it, which they're working to sort. As I type, the data for 1630 just came through, so it may be starting to recover, but I'd not be surprised if it's a bit bumpy for a bit at least.

  3.  Mapantz The met office system didn't either, beyond a solitary strike around lunchtime. Whether that's a combined weakness or a combined strength, I'm not too sure, but the boltek-based systems are certainly capable of showing false positives.

We are monitoring both systems right now, though, and aren't wedded to sticking with the new one, should it transpire that staying with the meto one is the best route.

  4. Yep, we're not receiving data from the met office currently, unfortunately. We've raised a ticket with them, so hopefully it'll be resolved soon. I suspect it may be a widespread issue as their own website isn't updated beyond 4pm either, the last I saw.

  5. I don't think those sferics were picked up by anything other than blitz, so I don't know if they were legit. It's picked up ones on the devon coast a short while ago fine. We are monitoring and tweaking our internal system as we go though, so will be fine tuning.

  6. The Vaisala lightning detection is now live on the V8 radar (including 1-minute updates when lightning is detected in the vicinity), and will be rolled out to other lightning detection on the site in the coming days.

  7. We updated the nowcast system today to be available on all three of the standard scales, so it works seamlessly on everything including the precip type display now.

Also, this week we'll be updating the lightning. We'll be switching to use the Vaisala lightning data, and as well as using their (fantastic) detection system, we'll also be able to utilise 1 minute updates when there are storms active 🌩️

  8. Disappointingly, I've not had a meaningful response from the Met Office yet, but it does look like whatever the issue was has been resolved, based on the bits and pieces showing in the region which had no coverage last night. I'll keep an eye on it as the rain moves in later.

  9. We've pushed an update live this morning which should clear the bug which was causing nowcast data to be shown briefly ahead of actual radar updates even if the nowcast option was switched off 🙂

  10.  LeeKay/ When the nowcast is switched off, it shouldn't auto update to use that, it should just update as usual to the latest 'live' radar. Are you seeing something different? Also does clicking the 'latest' button take you to the latest live time or the latest nowcast time?

In terms of real time updates of actual radar, that's not possible in the UK at the moment. Once we receive data from the metoffice we process and get in on the screen within around 20 seconds.

  11. Hi Alan, we're just waiting on the latest from the Met Office as to when it'll be re-added to the composite data. They initially said it would be Feb, but obviously, that's been and gone, so we've chased and await a response. I don't know why it's taking so long for them to sort it to be honest - I'll pass on whatever they say as soon as we have it.
