  1. WEATHER ALERT 00012

    Category: Level 2 Warning

Weather type: Snow, ice, blizzards, gales and heavy rain

    Affecting: All regions

Dates Valid For: 12:00 Thursday 11th March to 12:00 Saturday 13th March 2004

Discussion: As we head through today fronts will approach the UK from the west, bringing with them the increased risk of heavy snow, rain, gales and possible blizzards. All areas will be at risk from this during the period of the alert, although areas with the highest level of risk are Western, Central and Northern regions.

Accumulations of snow of upto 20cm are possible, particularly over high ground. Even in areas not affected by snow, rain falling onto cold surfaces may form ice and become an added hazard.

By Saturday milder weather will push across the UK, which may lead to flooding due to a rapid melt of any lying snow.

Due to the unpredictable nature of this set-up, please stay tuned to Net-Weather for possible flash updates as the developing situation becomes clearer.

    Confidence Level: (70%)

Note: This alert should be considered a guide and we strongly recommend you stay tuned to the Met-Office for further warnings and updates.

Expect further updates as and when needed.
