  1. Would I be right in saying it's quite an unusual situation tomorrow? (Assuming the current expectations come off, of course.) It's just I can't remember the last time we had a day of "rain moving in, with thunderstorms developing later". I always associate summer storms in this part of the world as being UK-convective things brewing up in the late afternoon and evening after a hot, sunny day, or VERY (!) occasionally being French-convective things which cross the Channel after a scorcher of a day in central/northern France. Or is my memory playing tricks?!
  2. So....rain looks a 99.9% certainty for the SE tomorrow, but less confidence on whether we get any of the electrical stuff, yes? OK, off to buy more lightning conductors. Sorry Brontophobes Utd...
  3. Thank you very much, Coast. I was trying to work out what they could stand for. Never would have got those! (A bit like MCS. For years, I assumed it stood for something like Monster/Mega Cloud Structure!!! Reading the models thread on here about 3 years ago taught me otherwise!) Anyway, cheers.
  4. Could someone tell me what NMM and NAE mean / stand for? (I know the likes of GFS, UKMO, ECM etc, but those two have flummoxed me!) Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question, but I honestly don't know.
  5. Time for me to move to Amiens, methinks! Edit: completely unintentional alliteration there!
  6. Happy Birthday for Sunday. And have a nice holiday. Reading comments on here and in the convective thread, beginning to wonder if I'll be mopping out on Sunday!
  7. You be beating me - just! 22.6° here at the moment. Certainly still a humid feel though. (Not having those easterlies/north-easterlies at this time of year makes a huge difference doesn't it? We could barely muster a max of 17/18° a few weeks back.)
  8. From what I can gather, the earlier in the day you can move, the better your chances of the TV etc staying dry!
  9. Morning all. The pre-Saturday rollercoaster continues its ride I see. My Belgian mate went home for a couple of weeks yesterday. I knew I should've headed to Ebbsfleet and cadged a lift on that Eurostar, as something tells me he WILL get clobbered by French imports. (Especially as he'll be in Tournai, which is almost literally on the French/Belgian border.) As for here; currently 21.3°, still feels muggy, and still not a drop of rain since the Tuesday early hours storms. Sky was overcast a couple of hours ago, but more and more holes appearing in that layer. And suffice to say, I will have no fingernails left in 36 hours' time. Ouch. Lee
  10. Hmm, I read that too. And it goes to show how my memory can play tricks; I would've thought 2003 or 2006 would've been the last time that happened, being hot summers. Yet it's August 1997?!?! And I don't remember that as being a hot month. Anyway....sunny, warm evening here. Still over 21° at after 8pm. A few months ago I was beginning to wonder if I'd see that this year. Just goes to show what a difference it makes to the temperature in this part of the world, in spring and summer, when we lose that north-easterly component to the wind. Happy for this to continue for a while yet!
  11. More proof of the "Christmas gets earlier every year" adage! Anyway, back into the realms of humidity here too. A good storm needed to clear the air! Just 48 hours to wait maybe??!
  12. It was probably one somebody in the stock room had found from last year, but I chose to ignore that fact, and say to everyone "Sainsbury's have started getting their Christmas stock out!" Weatherwise, currently 25.3°, with maybe 7 oktas of cumulus. Looking at the satellite images, however, I see quite a clearance is heading this way. So not too bad at all really. Garden needs much more rain though.
  13. I spotted this on the shelves in Sainsbury's a couple of weeks back. Does it count?
  14. Thanks. Watched lightning flashing away over the North Sea from Sheerness once, in the 80's. (July '85 I think.) Seemed to be slap bang over where the Radio Caroline and Laser 558 ships were moored. My one and only experience of North Sea lightning. Oops. Sorry for veering off the path there, with my childhood reminiscing!
  15. It's something - in my single-minded love of thunderstorms - I often forget. There ARE those who don't enjoy storms (and some are petrified of them). So I really ought to feel for them too. I'll be honest though - that's difficult for me. I'm not a selfish person at all. It's just thunderstorms are such a rarity these days, I can't help but think of my own likes when there's a chance of them occurring. Reading the comments in this thread, and in the storm discussion one, I gather the latest output suggests Saturday could be back on again for the time-being? What a well-used rollercoaster we travel on!
  16. Yes. Those who missed out on the Tuesday early hours storms certainly deserve a go this weekend. Only time will tell...
  17. Morning Coast. The situation regarding UK storms rather uncertain? I find that hard to believe! (Joking, obviously!) Everything already crossed for all storm fans though. Brontophobes Utd has won too many times over recent years - it's definitely time for Storm Freaks to even up the score. Here's hoping charging your camera is a good omen...
  18. Well, they got the "two" part right......as we had a couple of extremely tasty - and unforgettable - thunderstorms!
  19. Morning everyone. My garden is jealous of all who received a soaking overnight. Not a drop fell here. (Looking at the radar, I can see we came within a whisker of getting some of the wet stuff around half four this morning.) Let's see what the coming days bring... As expected, the Accuweather add-on has already dropped the "strong thunderstorms" description it was giving last night for Saturday night!! Now saying "early thunderstorms; clearing". Still better than I was expecting though! Currently: 22.6°, RH 40%, and well-broken clouds. Took this pic a few minutes ago, as I liked the fact there are clouds of various altitudes up there at the moment. Some much lower stuff just to the west too, but couldn't really fit that in the shot! (A little just visible in the lower left.) Really do need to brush up on my cloud names, I know that!
  20. My Accuweather add-on has just updated for Saturday night, and it says "Strong thunderstorms". Have never seen it say "strong" before (actually, I don't think I've ever seen it say "thunderstorms" before!), and I don't doubt it'll say something like "dry and clear" by tomorrow morning, but it's nice to see anyway.
