    Morning all. Gloriously sunny start here too. Could just make out a few clouds in the far south-eastern sky earlier (radar has even been picking up a few returns over the extreme east of the county). Other than those, though, not a cloud to be seen so far. Barely a breath of wind either. Currently 16.4°. So, all in all, very pleasant indeed. What a difference compared to recent summers! Lee

    After a slow start, today turned out to be a reasonable day in the end. Hazy sunshine, early NE'ly breeze died down, and it reached a pleasant enough 21°. I see the rain over the Channel/France stayed pretty much there. (And that's because we could do with it! You can bet, if we'd had a summer dominated by Atlantic lows, that French stuff would have turned today into another washout!) Thought this was quite interesting: http://www.meteociel.fr/observations-meteo/temperature-de-la-mer.php SST of 20° in the Thames Estuary area at the moment. That's fairly good going for this country isn't it? (And even more impressive when you think of how cold those seas were a few months back.) And the Mediterranean's practically a bath!

    Morning folks, Rather nondescript here too. Watery sun coming through the cloud layer, a fresh breeze from the NE (confirmed by the fact we can hear the trains here this morning - and that only happens in a north-easterly), and a current temperature of 18.7°C. I try to see the good in every weather day, but this is all a teeny weeny bit of a 'nothingness' morning, after the weather of recent weeks. I see from the radar that the edge of the French/Channel rain has inched across Romney Marsh. No idea how much further north it's going to get, but the garden really could do with some more. Have FINALLY got this year's first red tomatoes from the greenhouse. Far, far later than usual. And 95% are them are still thoroughly green. But it's a start, I suppose! As an aside, a new squirrel appears to have moved into the immediate neighbourhood over the last few days. Keep seeing it now, and yesterday evening it was drinking the water I'd just replaced in the bird bath. Much to the upset, shock and ire of the sparrows who were standing on their bird table looking gob beak-smacked! Lee

    Blitzortung suggesting a few strikes Sevenoaks way in the last few minutes. Sky certainly very dark towards that SW direction from my location.

    Just hit 27.1° here. (And my weather station is normally pretty accurate, temperature-wise.) Yet the MetO home page is still showing a max of 23° for my specific location, and a max of 24 for anywhere in the SE! Anyway, may cool down now as the cloud is thickening quick rapidly. May just catch the northern edge of the rain band moving east across the far south...

    Morning all, Still far enough away from the system to the west this morning to be honoured with a dry, sunny start to the day. Current temp = 23.2°. Sunshine has been hazy at times, yes, but a big chunk of contrail-and-cirrus-dotted blue now right above. Through which Lufthansa flight 903 from Heathrow to Frankfurt has just flown at low altitude. (Well, that's the flight it was, according to FlightRadar24!) What a difference down here so far today compared to the west and north-west. Interesting finger of heavy rain moving east through the Channel this morning. And it has just given off the first strike of the day. (On the French side, naturally! )

    Sorry to those in the west and north of our region who had a fairly cloudy day. Here in Kent, being that bit further away from the cloud-bearing fronts, it was gloriously sunny. Put the iPod on and sat in the back garden at 3 "to close my eyes for ten minutes". Woke up just over an hour later.........with a nose like Rudolf's. Still looking as if the far south-east is going to miss the heaviest of tomorrow's rain. I notice in the model thread, however, Captain Shortwave has recently mentioned the possibility of some thundery stuff in this corner on Wednesday. Funnily enough, for the whole weekend the MetO home page has shown "thundery shower day" for my location on Wednesday. But just as CS posts that, it has changed to "light rain"! Hope everyone has had a great weekend.

    Morning all, A continuation of what we've seen over the last few days really. Blue sky interspersed with fast-moving cumulus. A few higher-altitude clouds too. (Cirrostratus?) Wonderful lack of humidity, pleasant breeze, and a current temperature of 21.1°C. Had brekkie in the back garden - too nice not to! Up until this morning, I was expecting tomorrow to be something of a washout. Now, however, looking at the forecasts - and the comments on the NW forum - I'm starting to think this south-eastern corner could miss out on much of the rain. (Watch it hammer down all day tomorrow now!) Lee

    I'm not really sure where I ought to post this. (And I've not been a member on here long enough to even consider starting a new topic!) I know it's not SE/EA related, but many in this thread seem to be storm fans. So I thought I'd post it here. Instead of in the convective thread, for instance. As that seems to be about current and future storm events. But happy to delete or move it if necessary. A beefy Saturday afternoon thunderstorm in Brazil.     It certainly seems the further east in Medway you were, the closer you were to last night's cell. All Rainham peeps I've spoken to said it woke them, but a mate in Frindsbury said it seemed way off in the distance there. "Pester". Hee hee! I can assure you, from my point of view, it was anything but a nuisance!

    Morning folks, Well,last night's flashes and bangs (!) were an unexpected bonus. Didn't go on-line after about 4pm, so had NO idea anything was forecast - and then moving in. (Reading the reports, it seems the storms were a surprise to most. Not really forecast then?) Anyway, was a pretty good thunderstorm. Nothing like the ones in the early hours of 23rd July, of course. But some pretty impressive lightning nonetheless. A good chunk of it directly overhead. This summer is certainly helping to make up for the recent run of poor summers. And by 'poor', I mean in terms of temperature/sunshine, as well as thunderstorms. Currently 17.9°, sunny spells, and a fresher feel compared to recently. And no complaints about any of that from me. Roll on the next storms.....whenever they may be! Enjoy your Saturday morning, peeps. Lee

    That slice of strike-free atmosphere is 'amazing' isn't it? And it's pretty easy to see which way the electrical stuff is moving! You couldn't make it up. Grrrr!! Seriously, though, very pleased for those getting a piece (or several pieces) of the action this morning.

    I'm here! Just posted in the storms thread. Thought I was in the SE/EA one! Anyway, here's what I said: Morning all, Great to hear storm reports once again. One solitary rumble of thunder around 8 this morning. And a couple of low, distant rumbles heard from my west a few minutes ago from a very angry looking sky out that way. (Took snaps, but they're just not doing it justice for some reason.) Not a drop of rain has fallen here so far today. Currently 21.5°, and sun happily shining down on and off. Storms to my west. storms to my east. Clear to my south......and guess which way everything is moving! Will report back if anything changes! Lee

    Me too. And I'm pretty sure it held the record for the country's highest recorded temperature from 1990 (3rd August, I think). Lost the honour in 2003??

    Sorry if this isn't the right thread for this, but this (link below) is a site I look at fairly often for a snapshot of how our area looked from space at one point during the day. (Usually around lunch time, I believe.) And I thought today's was pretty impressive. Shows the clear skies not only over the south-east, but over the near continent too.
