  1. I think it's because the centre is tracking right up over the south-west.

The winds have really picked up down on the south coast

We've got to watch out for the 'wrap around' winds from the W-NW later tonight, as the developing low continues to move NE

yeah my thoughts exactly. But to be honest over the last few days it has been really  windy, now it calmer than it has been. i bet the sea over your way will look great tomorrow.. I am in Landkey so even more sheltered here as down in the valley.

nice to see someone else from north devon on here :)

will stay up for a few hours so we wait and see.

  2. Storm? what storm? we have no wind at all. just rain. OH wait I can confirm a leaf has just fallen of a tree. Posted Image

Sorry only joking, just feeling a little smug.. I am just soo glad I am not going to be affected by this but am very sorry if people do have a few problems.

listening to all the hype on the news makes it sound like a cat 5 hurricane is arriving. Which it is NOT..

    take care ....

  3. moderate rain here in Barnstaple, wind has now died back to gentle breeze.  Reading posts on other sites are the high winds most expected along the English Chanal and more the East of the county, rather than here in north devon north cornwal etc? Really not sure what to expect here if anything.

Its been a very confusing day on all threads and other sites.. None are as good as this one though. :)

  4. Oh wow... People on Facebook... Make me mad... In a nerdy sense Posted Image

Someone was saying about 90mph winds being forecast, and someone else said something about a hurricane... I'm sat here like; that's what happens if sensationalist headlines are put out!

Hi I have to say that speaking to people around North Devon they feel we will be on the shelted side so are not worried at all. They also go on to say that North Devon is never mentioned they just talk of Devon as a whole think they forget we are on to sepearate coasts North Cornwal North Somerset ETC.. I honestly dont know what to say, maybe they are right most of North Devon away from exposed hights and coasts wont even notice. So I suppose we will have to wait and see..

Any info would be greatly recieved..

  5. Just watched a catch up video, David Braine doing a forecast for the south-west

He'll be doing a live forecast shortly on Spotlight

    Pretty Concerning

    60 to 80mph winds

The only good news, it's hitting in the early hours of the morning for this neck of the woods, unless the timing changes

Probably be all over by toast & cornflakes

the last time we were forcast theses types of weather conditions, I kid you not that there was not a leaf moving outside my door. It turned out that I was right in the center so no wind at all.. I did see the news of total deverstaion around me and could not believe that not a leaf moved here So if it it going up the Bristol Chanel maybe we will get lucky again. :)

I bet the seas are going to look lovely on monday, I did see on another thread that some idiot is sailing from Cornwall to the Scils on Monday. I can only hope that was a joke. Anyhow nothing can stop windy weather. Just take care all those on the coast as the tide might be a tad higher than normal. Regarding trees they have done a pretty good job over the years to get rid of dangerous trees and branches.

I think we are going to be just fine..  All those in Scotland are prob wondering what all the fuss is about, just a normal day up there :)

  6. A cloudy but mild day here in Falmouth today. Cold? What cold spell? biggrin.png

Not that we were ever forecast anything cold. the SW leads the way on temps as usual. biggrin.png

yup same here, It feels more like spring than winter here. Out of the whole winter we have only had 1 to 2 weeks where it has felt like winter. Bit like the summer when we had 1 week of warm temps and sun. :(

Not complaining as saving money on the electricity bill :)

  7. Not a bad day all in all, mostly sunny with a few wintry showers, very windy still but temps are not down as much as i thought they would be. Think the most intense showers have missed me nothing showing on radar now.

Looks like the weather will slowly improve as the week goes on. Temp wise it has not been a bad Jan or Feb considering the amount of snow that has fallen. The last few years we were seeing temps of -12 -15, think we got down to -5 for one night only. Only talking of my area not anywhere else.

  8. Oh my f-ing God - my partner and I have just missed being hit by a bolt of lightning at our side door whilst having a fag. It hit the wall in front of us 2 feet away - it's burnt the wall - it was like someone switched all the lights in the world out for a nano second except for one single blindingly bright thin line. I usually stand on that stop - I have escaped death by 2 feet! Never seen anything like it - can't believe it - in shock (no pun intended). Anyone else experienced anything like it?

I was hiking on Exmoor a few years ago, we had just climbed up from a deep valley so we were on top of a rage of hills called the chains, it was a hot sunny day (shows you how long ago it was) when out of the blue this massive black angry cloud grew heading in our direction. We were very exposed even the trees up there were smaller than we were. the lightning was so intense that it took your breath away and the sound of thunder was overwhelming. The fear just rooted you to the spot until commonsense set in and I realized we were the tallest thing up there. The rain/hails, wind thunder and lightning had total transformed the landscape within minutes. To my left I noticed a small gully so I grabbed my hubby and threw us both into it. We lay face first in mud and stale water. While the storm seemed to be circulating around us I took a sneaky peek and saw lightning hitting the ground and bouncing. Then all of a sudden there was just a blinding white flash and the smell of burning, 2 feet away stood a small tree and it was where we had been stood moments before it was just a chard black smoldering stump.

It seemed to take forever for the storm to pass. By the time we got back to the car I was still shaking.

Still has not stopped me standing in back garden during a storm or chasing them. But I take great care.

  9. Lol yeah! It did stall for quite a while but looks like its moving further westwards now, almost at South Molton. There's not as many traffic lights on the link road as there is in Barnstaple, I wonder what it will do IF it gets here!

Its like watching paint dry.. Temps have now gone to 1c Its moving so slow. IT seems to get to Landkey and go round back up the link road. pluss its just fizzling out as it reaches us due to it moving so slow
