  1. The BBC made a cryptic reference to the coming winter this morning. I was watching the lovely Steph McGovern deliver a piece about energy suppliers and she said if the coming winter is any more severe than currently forecast there could be problems with our energy supple.

So which forecast is she referring to and I wonder how severe it is forecast to be! More questions than answers from Ms McGovern.

Yes i heard it too. It does make me wonder whether she was just going by what the papers are saying or whether she knows from the experts. Mmmm interesting.

  2. Todays daily Mirror headline on page 9 is for two weeks of heavy

Rain and flooding, followed by the beast from the East to bring

In the new year, however they failed to mention the six weeks

    In between

    C.s

One minute its going to be the worst winter ever from what the papers are saying and folk are taking notice as a lot of my friends keep saying wow we're in for a real bad winter must get winter tyres sorted. Then this morning on the local radio station they said the meto say its going to be wet windy and mild for the winter, no ones got a bloody clue. People like to prepare at this time of year with the Christmas holidays coming up and having to travel may be to see family and friends. :cc_confused:

  3. Aha, wonderful looking dog. I have 16 month Golden Retriever (see avatar) and was absolutely gutted he didn't get to see any snow last winter, I hope this winter more than makes up for it. His winter coat has now come through already so all being well he'll be sensing something is on the way also. Had a wonderful frosty walk with him at 6.30 am this morning. You can't beat a good cold crispy morning.  :friends:  :cold:

Me too out at 6 this morning with the dogs making the most of it and loved it :D hope we get more of it though

  4. Accu weather's winter forecast for the UK and Europe

Europe Winter Forecast: 'Fantastic' Ski Season for Alps; More Tranquil in UK

Fewer Storms for Ireland, United Kingdom and France

Another aspect of the upcoming winter season is that large and widespread damaging wind events are expected to be less common than last winter, which featured several noteworthy storms that caused damage from the British Isles into northern Europe.

While occasional shots of cold air will send temperatures tumbling across Ireland, the United Kingdom and France early in the winter, a persistent southerly flow caused by storms tracking near and north of Scotland will often result in near- to above-normal temperatures.

Fewer storms tracking across the United Kingdom and Ireland into northern Europe will lead to below-normal precipitation overall for the winter season, following the wettest winter on record across the United Kingdom last year.

How did they do with last years forecast?

  5. Fabulous morning here feeling chilly for a change and I'm loving it. Took the dogs out at 6 this morning and it certainly felt much more seasonal. I just hope it stays more like this for the run up to Christmas but from what I've been reading on this forum it could all change again very soon unfortunately but for now I'm going to enjoy this more seasonal weather :)

  6. This super mild is driving me mad, people say its too early for cold well its too late for the kind of weather we saw yesterday it should be a fresh 11C/12C by day by now and 5C at night.

From now up and till xmas its the best part of the year for me, I like the seasons autumn and winter and what comes with it Halloween Bonfire night and xmas but its the same as it was last year it  just doesn't have the same feel to it because of this boring mild weather. Xmas just isn't xmas without the icy cold morning's I know its not winter yet but I just can't help feeling like its going to be the same again as it was last year. .

  7. seems to me that we are heading towards a winter very similar to last year again. Shouldn't be too surprised though. As our default weather in the uk is westerly dominated weather. With cold not been the norm for our little Ireland. Perhaps we may see some short sharp blast at some point. But certainly no madden big freeze which at least will make him look like the idiot he is once again.

Really wish I'd not seen this :nonono:  :bad:
