Good effort! Quick, give Carol a call and tell her to swop out Gravesend for Cantebury at the top of her leader board! :)

    Temps Wed 18Jan.jpg

Min got down to -5.9C in my back garden.

EDIT: Carol has just put up a revised leader board and top is Frittenden in Kent at -7C.

On the local news Kate Kinsella also reported -7C at the sew.jpgFrittenden treacle mining station. Don't think tonight will be so cold.. Just sub zero again, though frost hasn't gone at all

  2. Well , my take on this for the SE region as especially Kent is. In my experience from the West / NW the ppt usually runs out of puff by the time it gets here. In addition right on the South coast is likely to be just too warm for any snow.  The best chance for any snow , and it won't be sledges time I fear is, if the ppt arrives as late as possible on Thursday once the temperature has dropped away a bit. However it might be best to take what we can get. As has already been said, watch the radar, odd things can happen and sometime very locally..

  3. Thing is if you have a section called weather in  the media , and perhaps curious but less informed people post , should we not be able to warn them about the rubbish that the express and others spout. In my job I have 2 choices when someone makes an erroneous statement , I either ignore it, so as not to give it further creedance and not to fan the flames, or I have to put people right by stating the facts as hoping to persuade them without being condescending.

It is probably is best to debunk their crack pot theories, otherwise and snake oil forecasters , there are some excellent articles in the Guardian , which really tear them apart especially some of  the completely fake forecasters they used from PWS in the past for example Emma Pearson who is a hair dressing assistant / model,  Kelly Smart "an egg donor, a hot date, a sublet property broker in Sweden, a lawyer, an expert on snoring, eyebrow threading" and Charlotte Haines who's only qualification seems to be and I quote " a pretty blonde woman "

So I guess it is best to make people aware of the facts..

  4. To be honest I think it is worth a complaint to the press complaints people. What they do is highly irresponsible. For example my workplace is arranging an event for young people at around the time this heat wave is meant to hit. Based on the that being true , we would probably choose to postpone  it as we wouldn't want people getting heat stroke. Then we could well end up doing it in worse weather.

Secondly they cry wolf so often that one day they will report on a serious weather story that is going to happen and no one is going to believe them or more reputable sources such as netweather or the met office.

  5. Another load of hot air from the express and their tame doomsday forecaster  If you can be bothered to read the article the met office say it will be a little above average in the south at around 20C.  From my research even an overly optimistic forecast would not predict above 25C which is shown in the Fantasy charts at around 5th October. That would be impressive enough. The mention of the met office is an attempt to seem credible. Then the rubbish part about 30C which has never been reached in October ( ok 29;9 in the heat pool that is Gravesend on 1 Oct 2011 ).     Let's see how accurate the express is ..

Yep I agree I've dumped the express link

  6. Today in the Sunday express online they managed to print a story about " the worst winter in 60 years " without noticing it was a rehash of a 2013 story, the complete give away was that it contained a long range forecast from 2013, and the http link contained a reference to 2013, wow a forecast accurate 3 yrs in advance , what kind of super computer does the express have.

Mind you in 2015 it was going to be the worse winter in 50 years

on 10th Jan this year they predicted the coldest winter for 58 years ( very specific ) " an Arctic Snowbomb"

But on 18th Feb they had backed down and predicted "ARCTIC gales, snow and freezing rain is sweeping Britain today with the entire country facing the worst winter blast for at least a year." Not the worst winter blast for at least a year , what since the last winter , how odd. They got that one right at least. Anyway I will predict now, that this winter will be the harshest winter since last winter, and next summer will be the hottest since last summer. Maybe they will give me a job.

Obviously making up stories about the weather is useful when covering up more painful truths.

BTW I don't read the express , I was looking for news on my home town on a woman who had a fight in McD's
