  1. I've been off the forum for a week or two so I'm personally delighted to see some of the discussions in the MOD thread! It's a desperate state of affairs that I'm pleased we'll be reaching as low as 5° this week but it's a lot better for anything approaching wintry weather than the double figures this past weekend. No, it's not snow. And no, it's not plunging temps or an Arctic blast (or any other Express headline) but beggars can't be choosers
  2. I'd be far more concerned by a swathe of people who love snow not getting excited if they see the possibility of it in the models. I don't want to be on a public forum with that level of sociopathy The lovely thing about not living in North Korea is we're all allowed to like different things and express our opinions in different ways. Isn't it marvellous?
  3. Didn't even manage to get building blocks this far west, let alone potential! I haven't seen a good potentialfall in years.
  4. Obviously nothing this far west but I'm so damn pleased some in the region have got falling flakes for the first time this winter!
  5. That is surprising! I wish I'd seen it because I probably would've gone to retrieve the towel on that basis. ETA: just went through BBC's twitter feed back to the 8th and the only mention I could find of disruptive snow for the UK is this one so I still haven't seen the damn thing! I could've easily missed it.
  6. Yes, but for where? SE England? Scottish Highlands? A nationwide event? Three roads in Cardiff? People keep referring to the BBC tweet but the location makes a difference to whether they made the wrong call (as I keep seeing implied). The TV forecast earlier reiterated disruptive snow but they were quite confident it was for the usual suspects. Unless the tweet stated elsewhere, perhaps people here read IMBYism where there was none?
  7. I keep seeing the BBC tweet referenced but missed it myself! Did they say disruptive widespread snow? Or could they have been referring to the usual suspects?
  8. Good grief Obama climate initiative: Supreme Court calls halt - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-35538350
  9. Three inches makes headline news? The Express really is scraping the barrel.
  10. I remember that well...spectacular stuff. Tons of strobing that seemed to go on for hours and I even got some decent shots with my iPhone (that I subsequently managed to drown in a puddle in October). My Blitzortung app was in overdrive Rather hoping we get similar this summer.
  11. Ah @Surrey I am jealous! Nothing like that over my side of the county. Looked a bit menacing driving home, mind.
  12. It's almost weird hearing how quiet it is outside now I have mixed emotions about any snow potential now and I'm reluctant to retrieve my towel (though I'll be delighted if the weather gods stick two fingers up to me and bury me under snow )...I can't help but feel it's another goose chase. I haven't looked at the MOD thread for a while but I think it'd already disappeared for us on recent runs?
  13. Remember these from a mere few hours ago: I don't think I was the only one to point this out to you either.
  14. The most surprising bit of info from this thread so far is that power lines down at the Hindhead tunnel, trees down and rail services delayed are 'back garden' events. Someone must have a bloody big back garden!
  15. It's hardly been a breeze here either My composter is on its side on the other side of the garden, doing a passable impersonation of a felled dalek. I'm going to go out on a limb and put that down to the wind rather than it fainting.
  16. MetO told everyone your area wouldn't be getting much of Imogen, so I'd be surprised if anyone had ramped for Herts. The same can't be said for elsewhere in the SE, and none of it's comparable to the SW.
  17. School run was fun - rain seemed to time it perfectly for parents waiting in the playground. Didn't see much damage other than a few branches down and a bin in a hedge but trolls are advised to seek shelter under the nearest bridge Lots of coverage on BBC News for storm impact nationwide, including 12,000 poor sods in the SW without power.
  18. Saying it won't be like '87 is also comparing. You seem to expect a level of accuracy from others that you're not willing to demonstrate yourself. I haven't seen anyone categorically say this will be as bad as '87 but even if someone had it doesn't make it so
  19. And it's certainly feeling more significant than previous storms this 'winter'
  20. Working from home today and about to leave the house for the school run. I feel like I should've invested in lead boots for my 6yo
  21. "Could possibly"... so no, as you've just demonstrated yourself, the person in question didn't claim it will be close. Semantics, but words mean things.
  22. @ihatecoldweather you do realise one of the quotes you've used actually contradicts the claim that people were saying it'd be as bad as '87? "I doubt if it will be like 87..." Pretty damn blowy here.
  23. An IMBY post if ever I read one! The difference between yellow and amber warning areas, I guess.
