Apparently, we had an SSW last week Sudden Stratospheric waste of time as it won't be doing anything to bring a cold spell.

I must confess that, IMO, The Day After Tomorrow was one of the crappiest films I've ever seen!
At least the weather models were all in agreement and all smelt the coffee in that film which was a thing of beauty, I think the UK got drizzle out of that scenario though

RussiaSiberia With Love:Friday 2 Feb - Friday 16 Feb
Into early February there is an increased likelihood of high pressure having greater influence on UK weather patterns. There is uncertainty in exactly where high pressure will become established but this increases the likelihood of drier conditions. There is also a greater than normal likelihood of winds from the east leading to an increased chance, compared to normal, of cold spells. Whilst a drier and colder scenario is most likely during early February, there remains a chance of some milder interludes with spells of rain and strong winds, especially across the north.
And that can only mean one thing, Lass.
More of that dreaded All Weather Racing!!

Tom Q.

well computer models do
yes they make the weather do the opposite to what they show when it comes to cold weather

Oh yes, totally agree. While sunny and cold is quite nice to look at, I'm not such a fan of having to have the heating on all day (working from home). I've said it on the model thread plenty of times, but the "Get the cold in first!!!" and "Once the cold is in, it can be hard to shift!!!!" lot are just repeating tropes they've picked up from others. How many times now have we had very cold, but very dry spells? With all the advancement in technology and, alleged, understanding, we're still no better at predicting the weather, not really.
and if you post that the cold block is going to get pushed away rapidly, then you are being negative and ruining the mood of the thread I wasn't aware that positive thinking could influence the weather lol

Not so much as a snow grain up here!
What a carp cold spell, I judge cold spells by the amount of snow grains that hit me in the eyeballs I am afraid to say that frost is very uninteresting lol. Let's hope we don't hear the phrase 2010 redux ever again this winter from all the experts in the thread

I always know what I'm going to get when I buy boxes of chocolates, it tells you what you are getting in the box, no wonder Forrest Gump was confused lol
I hope none of you SE posters are snowed in following yesterday's 'event'

Absolutely agree with the above NewEra21, from 7 hours ago.
Below, are the 500hPa and 850hPa archive charts for 18z on 1st February 2009, as the most productive Thames Snow Streamer event that I've ever witnessed was about to begin.
I had moved to Lee with my future Wife, a few Years earlier.
Back where I used to Live with my Children in Anerley, London SE20, this was the scene the following Morning.
My Daughter's car was covered with a good few inches, and this was the scene from the road bridge over Anerley Station, looking N.
It was a very unusual Thames Snow Streamer event, in regard to the distribution of Snowfall.
For once the depth of Snow was more notable in some areas, such as Guildford, rather than locations further East and closer to the Thames Estuary/Southern North Sea.
I was working in Croydon [Surrey] at the time. Monday 2nd February was my Day off, and I couldn't believe the amount of Snow that was lying on the ground in Central Croydon,, on Tuesday 3rd February.
Below, is a Youtube clip of the scene in Central Croydon on Monday 2nd February, 2009:
Just found this Thread below, which I started way back in November 2014:
