dont see the " beast " troubling uk will be interesting to see what else forms in the bay of biscay tonight though
-
The radar is giving clear signs that this particular storm is heading too much north east to hit us
-
It wont change course quite simply that particular system will miss the UK
-
heres to watching the bay of biscay tonight then it has to be something special to forecast 50mm of rain in an hour
-
Where is the stuff that is supposed to affect Southern England tomorrow ?
-
It seems to be moving east north east and unlikely to affect us
-
It will be interesting to see developments in the coming hours . Looks pretty severe on the sat pictures !
-
I know the feeling Sat up two nights on the run and nothing in my area . Hoping that the channel may spark something that will head across central southern England . Nothing yet
-
It is worth keeping an eye on developments in the channel . The south west channel has started producing some storm activity in the last hour .
-
They have a funny nature these storms . Last night I was convinced that the band heading north east across the channel would hit Hampshire . Nothing materialised . These temperatures are sure to set something off tonight ? 30 degrees here in Southampton now and still rising .
-
All looking good for Hampshire . Storms as I said earlier due to hit Isle Of Wight South Coast Hampshire Southampton Portsmouth In Next hour and a half Bring it On
-
Looking with an untrained eye at radar over the last hour Storms to make landfall in Southampton Portsmouth area in next 2 - 3 hours . Pressure 1014mb in Southampton and unstable . Definately heading NE across the channel . Lets hope for a big breakdown
-
you're right there Peter. They still have it up/
that warning is taking shape as we speak and looks quite nice on the net weather precipitation type radar ........ nice to sit here and see where the temps are right now ........ some places having snow with temps very similar to far south coast .......... so who know how far south the snow will travel ......... interesting night ahead and ........ how some people can say that the weather is a let down is beyond me ...... we all get our turns ....... patience is the key ........ last year was a snow fest ....... i have lost count of how many times i have sat up on here to watch a storm come in and it changes direction at the last minute etc etc ...... this site is all about learning and excitement ...... some have advanced technical knowledge ...... for me its like fishing ....... you know the storms etc are coming but its when you catch one ........ often they just miss your location ............
-
just a quick update to that the snow is falling quite widely from the brecons as far east as northampton and as far south as just north of oxford ......... exactly how the met warnings said it would ...... that was forecast hours and hours ago early last night ............ i still think the snow could move further south as temps drop away too
-
do you have access to the net weather radar ? hardly a dull event . take a look at the precipitation type . snow is widely beginning to fall across the wales midlands and gloucester area .......... this will all spread southwards and eastwards as the temps drop away
-
you have to say at this stage the met have it nailed ......... as you look at the warnings they only give heavy rain along south coast ........ panning out that way .... no wind here ........ wales to get the brunt of the snow later in the night .........
-
bit blowy in southampton ....... nothing major here at this time ....... 6.2 degrees . barometer 987mb
-
we're in the warm sector now, when it passes, it drags the colder air in. if you look at the latest GFS 850's it even drags in a small patch of -5's
i am all up for learning but surely all the heavy precipitation has passed when its at that stage ?
-
the heaviest of any precipitation seems to be to the south of the uk now ....... hard to see where all the snow will come from in the uk now .........
rain arrived too early for the colder temps by the looks of it ........
-
So close yet so far! arrggh oh well im happy with what we got on Monday Night
could have just missed us .......... but its still moving in ..........
-
Feel free to shoot me down, but isn't the drop in pressure where you are due to the low running right next to you? and also that strong winds flow anti-clockwise so there wouldn't be any wind??
Or do I have that wrong?
i am no expert just like to watch and learn ...... i once heard that a drop of 8mb or more in 3 hours indicated gales .......... the low is running right next to us ...... i have always been led to believe that the edges of the low ........... where the isobars are tightly packed bring the strongest winds .......... the atmosphere is certainly saying something here i believe .........
-
Yep exactly, i reckon we'll feel the force in some way. I'm actually not too far from you, I'm in the Nursling area which is the west side too. I'm hoping for snow more than anything though, last year around this time was amazing for this area - never seen anything like it since I've been here.
yes last year was phenominal here ..... back to the here and now though ...... earlier i spoke to a totton policeman who said they had received an email about wind tonight .......... can anyone post the track or movements of the system now ........ you do sense something in the atmosphere tonight ........ my two cats are going nuts around the house here .......
-
Hi peter....what part of soton are you in? I'm also in Southampton and have noticed the pressure dropping.
I've always felt that we'd still get some pretty strong winds here as we're right on the coast. Not as strong as it could have been, but noticable IMO.
The snow risk for us is there too looking at the latest output, but it is extremely marginal for us. More of a sleet event for the far south IMO.
hi mate . i am based at totton by asda ...... west side of southampton ....... we have had a 5mb drop in less than an hour ......... they say 8mb in 3 hours for gales ....... i still have a sneaky feeling that us on the far south coast are going to feel this storm more significantly than many people think ......... unless the eye of the storm passes right over us then we are technically right on the edge of it with pressure like this dropping so fast too .........
-
i still think this has a suprise or two in store . pressure 992mb in southampton 10mb drop in 3 and a half hours . anyone still feel this is going to swing slightly north and affect south coast
pressure dropping like a bomb here in southampton

without a western push it would just need to grow in size and quite considerably . this at the moment is heading North East
