  1. I know a lot can change between now and the weekend, BUT, quite interestingly Météo France are not progging any storms over there until Monday at the moment! They tend, I know, to be quite conservative at first and then issue warnings. I'm reasonably sure that this will be more than a one day event on both sides of the channel, if not I'll bottle you some Limousin lightning
  2. Some of the French sites are already suggesting that most of the major t-storm activity is going to be east and south, but that doesn't mean that the west and north won't get anything! The plus side is it looks like they are progging the heat and the storms to go on all week over there - I know time will tell but I suspect I will be sitting in our garden with a glass or three of wine watching the fireworks... a few days of dreaming first though - downgrades are not allowed!
  3. We've just had a very brief but very heavy shower with a few small hailstones thrown in. This could be an interesting week or so...
  4. What a shame I'm only taking hand luggage - otherwise I would have fitted you in. Looks like I'm going to see some fireworks if it all comes off, I'll keep you posted...
  5. That's amazing - I wonder what happened to the truck, there seemed to be a lot of flames but it just carried on? The closest I have got in a car was on a very exposed section of autoroute a few years ago near Beaune, CG struck up a relationship with a metal fence at the side of the road and the flash and bang was incredible...
  6. Oh that is so beautiful. Enjoy the evening's displays...
  7. I guess there's all sorts of refraction going on at different altitudes. I've seen lightning that appeared to be pink inside clouds, and lightning can be very blue over mountains, but never a green sky...yet! Maybe this is the year...
  8. Not right here now in the north - I'm in Yorkshire and it's just grey and drizzly, but the Pennines are great for the right sort of storm setup. At the moment it's our southern friends who are getting the action from cells strong enough to have made it across the channel...
  9. I was in Nuremberg from last Tuesday until Sunday. There were handsome chains of CuNbs all the way from AMS and some great hail curtains and lightning coming into NUE. We had a couple on the Wed. as well, but nothing as intense as the heating your are having might give. I spend quite a lot of time in France, so I'm besotted with continental storms and never get tired of them...
  10. I wish I'd been over there this week instead of last - but at least I did get a couple of storms when I was there!
  11. We need a West Yorkshire storm invocation - but I think our time will be another day...
  12. We'll have our day, don't worry, but it's grim, grim, grim out there... Isn't it incredible though how those storms have survived their channel crossing so well and gained strength as they hit the UK. Lovely for the folks down south. Enjoy!
  13. Crikey, the south looks like a proper firework display! Will we get anything up here in the north though? There's absolutely no break in the relentless cloud and it's drizzling unpleasantly - yuck...
  14. Still raining heavily here. Just normal heavy rain, nothing thundery at all! Nothing out of the ordinary happened in Limousin either. Quite a bit of lightning activity, and squally winds caused a few road blockages with fallen trees.
  15. This is a view on one of the autoroutes heading toward Poitiers. Lovely driving conditions! http://www.viewsurf.com/univers/trafic/vue/7508-france-centre-chambray-les-tours-a10-pres-de-chambray-les-tours-vue-orientee-vers-poitiers and another on the A10 http://www.viewsurf.com/univers/trafic/vue/7508-france-centre-chambray-les-tours-a10-pres-de-chambray-les-tours-vue-orientee-vers-poitiers
  16. I'm very sad at not being in Limousin today to see the action, if it materialises. I've been in various parts of France during similar events and they are awesome - there was a similar MCS event I was caught up in in mid-May a few years ago, but they've most often been in the summer months. I'll see if I can get a friend to take photos of anything interesting...
  17. I think we are apt to forget that not everyone enjoys what we enjoy - but then again that goes for just about everything in life! You describe the cognitive approach to phobias almost perfectly, this can work for some people, but others need extra "ingredients" thrown in and often someone else's help (I'm a cured dental phobic so I know what people go through, and it's way beyond being frightened). Maybe we could have a discussion somewhere else and folks could share ideas? It's amazing how many people suffer in silence (and sometimes not in silence) in all sorts of situations...
  18. Distant thunder rumbling from the Leeds direction here. Just came back from shopping and walking back with my rucksack and a carrier bag full, the big cool drops were gorgeous! Not so great when I had to run for the washing though...
  19. Now that I'm back from my travels for the moment I have the home grown storms to enjoy - we actually had a reasonable Friday and Saturday in Nuremberg until it went all showery again yesterday, but nothing like last Tuesday evening - that rain was mindblowing! Bubbling up nicely here in the foothills of the Pennines:
  20. Two or three great little storms today as we had a day off and visited Regensberg - the pictures were late afternoon heavy showers, but we had lightning like yesterday later on as we were heading back to Nuremberg on the train and when we were in the restaurant this evening.
  21. Stunning cloudscapes on our flight to Nuremberg from Amsterdam this afternoon - approach and landing around a nice little t-storm which prevented us from leaving the parked aircraft for a while as ground staff were kept inside! Apocalyptic rain and some good hail battering the windows! Bedtime now...too much German wine me thinks...
