Very elevated, barely any rain. Passing to our West towards the Llandegla moors. Moving fast as well, more flashes to the South East so maybe some more action soon.
-
Regular flashes and close thunder in Chirk, it's coming...
-
Fast moving too...next stop? Oswestry/Wrexham parts of The Wirral.. Very tidy it looks too!
Can confirm, thunder in Chirk, main storm looks slightly West of here.

Can someone prove to me that there was not heavier enough rain over the SE(yellow zone) to warrant a yellow warning?
The rain rates in places did meet the warning criteria, the zone in which it covered does not mean everywhere would receive the large amounts or heavy rainfall forecast, these rainfalls can be varied and local, the only time as far as I know to use more local warning's, (example: London) during thundery outbreaks is where homegrown thunderstorms develop locally, how can we know where exactly gets the heaviest downpours locally from such an imported system?
Ironically, here in the Wrexham area it has been raining for around 6 hours, torrential for the last 3 hours, with a fair rivulet running down our hill which may well flood houses further down, yet we are not even in any of the warning areas, despite clear radar indication that we would get a fair share of downpours. Maybe it's because of the lack of thunder activity, either expected or received (we never usually do anyway, one thunderstorm in 4 years)?
Still warranted a warning!

Well over a foot ( one sheltered point in the back where it stuck first is 15 inches) here in Chirk, and still it falls. Worryingly the lights keep flickering, so looks like we may lose power soon. In addition one or two large conifers are making some evil noises, a couple of branches have already snapped off with the weight, but one tree in particular is worrying us, and it's big...

To answer Carl, yes very bad around Oswestry. Large hail and also frequent lightning. Here in Chirk it's a coming.......!!
-
Here in Chirk at 130m currently rain with maybe a sleety flake or two. Temperature is 2c, not sure about dewpoint but Shawbury and Hawarden both show 1c?
Virtually no wind here either.
-
Oh, and Blackpool now reporting gusts to 51mph.....
-
No on a S westerly the wind follows the contours of the Ceiriog and the Dee valleys, giving North Shropshire a good blow before heading toward Ellesmere...
Capel Curig is a good 70 miles West.
-
Capel Curig now 82mph, Lake Vyrnwy 67mph, and Aberdaron 72mph. I have family near Lake Vyrnwy too.
-
Ever seen a sheep blown over? No neither have I, but I'm watching......
Wait your turn Blackpool, I thought the same a couple of hours ago!! LOL
-
75mph at Capel Curig, 66mph at Lake Vyrnwy, stormy here in Chirk. Looks like North Wales gets first knock at the door!!

Can confirm nothing thundery in the Manchester lot, but sferics showing in the stuff in E Wales atm.
Seems to have died out here as quickly as it appeared, maybe a dozen visible distant flashes, now can see the stars again. Oh well that's another storm to miss us, none at all overhead this year!!!
Manchester routed airplanes now flying over us as well, but just noticed another faint flash to the East of us, maybe Crewe next?
-
Coming in from the South, nothing overhead, but seems to be sidling off to the East, so looks like parts of Cheshire next.
-
Thunder heard in Chirk, flashes off to the South. Look out Wrexham........
-
Not exactly known for our thunderstorms though are we?
-
Torrential rain in Chirk now, no sferics tho....
-
Thunder in Chirk now.

Sea breeze front from SW England north across Welsh borders and over the Pennines building Tcu this afternoon, some bight echoes suggesting heavy showers just west of Oswestry, Shrops over the border in East Wales.
Looking 06z NAE, MCS perhaps drifing NE across SE England Sunday morning, thundery rain across The West as an occlusion (seen on fax charts) moves in from the west:
5 Miles WNW of Oswestry, went very dark around 30 mins ago but it's lifted since. Maybe over the mountains it could brew up later.
-
Falling - and sticking - well here in the North. Still only moderate but a couple of cm so far. Looking good for a fair bit by morning according to the radar.
-
Excellent analysis there, without any drama. A pleasure to read
