What do you mean when you say "elevated lightning" is it C to C flavour??
-
Am I the only one sat refreshing the Metoffice warning page like a loony?
NO!!!!!!!

Well in a nutshell most of my life and when one comes along shut curtains turn up the volume on tv to very high levels turn light on and sit in one position and wait it out
Hmmm, similar to me, do you have sky, cable or standard tv through aerial I had sky installed to avoid an aerial on the roof!!!
I unplug everything electrial except Sky tv, turn mirrors around, and basically sit there terrified!!

I'm happy you all agree with his assessment becuase I'm out of the risk zone doesn't mean I'm in the clear but I'm a lot happier today than what I was yesterday
Thank God for speedier Cold Fronts
Gordon, if you don't mind me asking, how long have you had problems with Thunderstorms, and what is it you do when you get one...?
Cheers
Karl.

Well me been near Coventry I'm just outside your expected area and even further away from you severe area which is good for me
Well, I am on the western fringe of the less severe section now... Still worried, with the obligatory stomach butterfly's, and the gentle head thumping also in situ now....

I will be on duty at Leicester Speedway on Sat afternoon, getting track ready for our meeting Saturday night at 7.30pm, as you all know by now, I hate thunderstorms at the best of times !! What's our storm chances? I'm hoping by say 2pm they will have passed us by, at least the big uns. Our track is sort of west Leicester, nr Beaumont Lets, post code: LE4 1DZ , I put that to aid non Speedway fans and people that don't know Leicester well..
Cheers for any input

In all seriousness, have you considered some type of meditation/relaxation methods to help you deal with your fear?
What is it that scares you exactly? If you know that then you might be able to focus on working on that aspect of it.
Same with me........ I am terrified of thunder/lightning, obviously it's the lightning element that actually terrifies me, I'm not so bad if I am with a group of people, in what I consider a "safe place" but on my own, i'm useless! Most likely seen running to get in a car, wind up Windows, feet on rubber mat, hands off all inside of the car and wait until it passes over... I actually have recurring nightmares about lightning, thunder, ridiculously massive tornados, stupid constant lightning, hitting everywhere around me..... Feeling nervous just thinking about it.......

solid post Andy....elevated storms will also be a player tomorrow overnight and into the early hours of saturday morning
C'Mon....., what the difference between elevated and surface thunderstorms? Please??

I've had a problem with the forum off and on all week, the forum doesn't render properly, so I cannot see or post anything.
Don't let William Grimsley see that, all hell will break loose!
I'm sure it'll update again though.

Right my friends........ What's?
The difference between surface based and elevated/high based thunderstorms?
Is it the types of lightning produced, or storm longevity of storms, intensity, or something else......?

11:06 Thursday.....
Met Office Updated Warning For Saturday Now Modified...
The word Thunderstorm/s have been totally removed from the forecast!! Now only saying heavy, thundery downpours......
What's going on!???

We had a fairly similar setup during Wimbledon a couple of years ago (2011?) with very moist and unstable airmass across C/S/E England, with very high dew points, very high CAPE/LI, high temperatures and an active cold front pushing through around mid to late afternoon - the result was a massive line of very active tropic like thunderstorms which rode the front SW to NE, frequent lightning, torrential rain, relatively large hailstones and lasted for a good hour or two. The primary difference I can see between then and Saturday is on that day the temperature had reached 30C by midday then as the storms were firing they dropped off to around 22C.
I'm very much hoping for something similar - that was an awesome day with great green hues in the sky and one storm after another riding the front. The thunder on that particular day was extremely loud and angry too.
This was a clip posted by a chap I am very grateful to
Blimey!!!!! Just watching that, 4 years later, has given me a belly ache, butterflys in my belly and a cold sweat!!!!! Hope we don't get anything that close/violent/loud in Leicester on Fri night, Sat day....!

that looks quite amazing!!am really looking forward to this weeknd now!!but with how quickly everythings moving west I wouldn't be surprised if everything ends up over wales or northern Ireland!!lol
The there e 850 chart looks like a person walking towards the UK!!!
Not really relevant, but it spooked me looking at it!!!!
-
With all the hyping/ogling of these charts, how rare are they? Are they once a year charts, once a decade charts, once in a lifetime??? If you get what I mean....?
-
Right, Thundery Shower v Thunderstorm, if lightning can only be formed in a cumulus nimbus (thunder cloud) i think I have spelt it correctly, what is the difference between a thundery shower and a thunderstorm or can lightning be produced in other cloud formations if certain conditions are met, ie you get a ruddy great shower, and a single flash bang event....... If you understand what I mean....??

Well, both Leicesters Speedway matches were rained off over the bank holiday weekend.... We pumped around 18,000 Gallons of rain water off the track and rain storage tanks, all to no avail... Hope it's not a pre cursor to the rest of the season, when is this batch of poor weather set to move on...?
-
Ok guys, we got rained off yesterday at home against Birmingham :-(
Tomorrow we race Poole at home, 3pm first race...
What can we expect from the weather gods, from say 12 noon until around 18:00?
Our track is Leicester, oh, forgot to mention it's Speedway, and I work on track prep on race days..
Thanks
