  1. River Derwent's high through Matlock, burst its banks in numerous places, and has been flooding the fields for several hours. currently 2.94m due to hit 4.45m around midnight. Normal range is half that !! very high when you consider flood alerts to properties were set at 2.9m past that now. Just hope it does not flood the town again
  2. just in the yellow haha, but its more of a hill event more due Sunday and Monday (snow)
  3. just started to snow in Middleton (by Wirksworth) family are out enjoying it.
  4. Yes it looks good, I need to go to Chestf train station at 9.30 then return via B5057, highest point on there is 322m.
  5. Yes same here, we have a fab view of a mature horse chestnut at the bottom of the garden hope its still there Saturday
  6. getting rough tonight, 4 power outages at 225 mtrs family at Middleton 310mtrs saying its getting dangerous, and this is DOUGLAS gone only only knows what Eunice will bring. candles are out, in case, phones, laptops charged , hell the cat (15 years old ) is out in it, he's an old timer, haha. everyone keep safe, its gonner be a rough ride
  7. Well the predicted gusts inland will do lots of property damage. A couple of years ago we had gales here, sustained winds 25 to 35 mph. Gusts up to 50 to 55mph, then we had a stronger gust blow threw, lasted 5 to 10seconds, large crash and bangs, ripped of two large ridge tiles. When i spoke to insurance Company there checked there weather reports ??? maybe met office, dont know, but he came back on the phone and said my post code area had a reported gust of 58mph. So if 58 can ripped of ridge tiles god only knows what a 70 to 85mph could do.
  8. yep , just reached here now, just got back home from a 2.5h walk, started to spit with rain as I was taking off my boots haha. great timing, just wish it had been colder and it would of been all snow. Roll on next winter.
  9. starting to look good again for here Friday into Saturday , plenty of deep hill snow could be on the way. if it comes off, it will be the 6th or 7th moderate to heavy fall so far this winter
  10. Keep them pics rolling, I love em. We have had a reasonable winter in North Derbys, 6 falls of heavy snow, numerous roads blocked, hundreds of abandoned cars, 6 to 10 feet drifts on the hills, I suspose because I have posted lots of pics, and vids in the Midlands thread does that mean Iv have to get lost as well hahaha. if I cannot get lots of snow here then the next best thing is looking at pics of it elsewhere, even USA if I'm desperate
  11. Not much to say really if looking for snow, sure its cold, and dry, also foggy, but watching models when we have this is a bit of a drag at present.
  12. might happen, ppn on radar has once again clumped together (good phrase) as it passes over Peak District, for here I will need some intensity but up on the hills I am sure it could be snow again, might drive up to Ringinglow tomorrow morning, get some pics if its not to misty
  13. I have to agree with all of this, as living in Matlock we do seem to do reasonable well snow wise, although I wish I was a bit further up the hillside, although its only a 15 min walk to reach 300 metres. I have worked mostly in the Matlock area as well and a friend who had 4 years working in Derby used to say what a "nice sunny day" it had been, but here in Matlock in had been mostly cloudy and dull (I suppose Peak District hills effect) ? We do seem to get snow from any direction , good point. Yesterdays streamers sometimes reffered to as Cheshire gap - hit us again. in 2010 we had 48cm level snow in back garden from a Humber streamer, and when I spoke to JH (respected poster on here ex Met man) he only had 5 to 10cm I think and he was reporting from Rotherham area ? I checked a few weeks ago about elevations of areas around here, within1 to 5 miles and was suprised to see that lots of my favourite spots were higher then Buxton Market Place. I have close family living in a village whose garden is at 310 metres, fab place to go for a coffee, snack and check out snow, but you do need a 4x4. Last nights trip over to Chesterfield had to be abandoned there was too many stranded cars, but again some of the road was at 325metres, good place snow wise, even if its light here we can get to some great spots for a snow fix. cheers
  14. just easing off here now, that was fab to see develop on the radar, just all merged into a great big sized area of well, snow. looking North could be more incoming later or may just miss it to our North, maybe sheff might cop it
  15. same here, I swear the snow ball size flakes have joined, together some must be 2 to 2.5inches in size.
  16. woah, heavy now, bad driving conditions for those driving home from work. yeah just tuned to the 50pence type size flakes, you know, those that hit you like a snowball hahaha
  17. at last moderate snow falling, I would imagine higher up its worse, I supposed to be driving over to Chestefield in 30 mins, should be fun, up and over 350mts, just has to be done, even if its just for a few groceries, dont need an excuse to go out in the snow.
  18. well now, ppn to north west has definatley merged looks good, hope it keeps its intensity as it goes through buxton, also hope its white stuff falling from it, if so we look to for a direct hit straight down the derwent valley, should be hitting Bakewell now, and I am 6 miles SE of it
  19. Ive head this, also had a pic from a work colleague showing no snow in Chesterfield ?? when I checked radars the heavy ppn seemed to be North of Matlock, so I assumed hilly parts of sheff, and chesterfield would have been pasted, but maybe not. still tonight and tomorrow to come
  20. definatley an altitude thing, during the last event Nov / Dec there was between 15 to 20cms at Pikehall, Newhaven, parts of Parwich, 4 to 6 miles from here and 260 to 350mtrs Middleton had easily over 12 inches lying at my house in Matlock (195mts ) there was 5 to 7cm, but in town centre 90 mtrs ish, but only 400 metre walk there was just a slight covering. it them hills I tell you, should be plenty of snow still around at the weekend, in the Peak District Today we still have 85% coverage, so Hoping it tops up overnight and tomorrow.
