  1. I think it links into the article from Monbiot that Summer Sun posted yesterday re having to be proactive instead of reactive for those prone to flooding and being able to plan ahead. I have no idea whether this would be an article with merit in the view of metrologists, but I'd like to know if there's any substance to the topic.
  2. Saw this article in the Guardian and wondered if some far more expert and wiser posters would like to comment on it? https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/sep/25/die-cast-wet-stormy-winter-weatherwatch
  3. Just had a text alert from the MET warning of heavy rain and storms here - now it's been cancelled and removed?
  4. Thank you so much - I'm sure they will but I ache for a replay of July 4 2001, but onwards and upwards!
  5. Throughout this summer I've got myself psyched up so many times after looking at the models (like earlier today) only to be disappointed - and today is no exception . However I keep the faith due to the amazing pics, videos and posts of all those storrm fans on this site who manage to get into the zone. A belated and sincere thank you to all of you who keep the hope alive, and as the forecast here is giving a 63% chance of a lightshow there's always hope!
  6. Sky to the south of me over Cardiff - quite loud thunder and heavy rain at the moment.
  7. Now gone really dark here and starting to rain - fingers crossed
  8. Finally after watching streams of storms gliding past my little part of the world the sky's gone so dark - spookily around the same time as Bale hammered that goal in
  9. I've always loved storms and earlier there were comments about people being able to smell thunder, I think it's like cordite with that sharp metallic smell. I'll never forget that journey it was like heading into a war zone, absolutely terrifying but still able to appreciate the power of nature - an amazing experience.
  10. Been keeping an eye on Blitzortung and it looks like Devon/Cornwall might expect something in a couple of hours, I don't hold out much hope for us in South East Wales - I'm in the Rhondda so they tend to die before they get here. Hope you get a better result!
  11. I ended up on the top of Caerphilly mountain taking a shortcut - I know they say that a car is the safest place to be but when that's a Daewoo Matiz it didn't give much confidence!
  12. Does anyone remember the 4 July storm of 2001? I was on the way to work at the time and the sheer ferocity of it scared the life out of me
  13. BBC revised their forecast for hail but it's brightening up here now and no thunder heard for the past 20 minutes
  14. Thunder still sounding distant but according to the radar should be arriving in the next 10 minutes
  15. Thunder rumbling in the distance here - seems to be moving up from Cardiff?
  16. Huge overhead clap of thunder around 6.30 - just a few drops of rain but I can still hear the rumbles in the distance. Quite unexpected - and the last time this happened it took a day to get my cowering cat to come down from the top of the kitchen cupboards, where he's now hiding. So off to open a tin of tuna I suppose...
  17. No Sunday lie-in here. Anyone else get a (brief) thunder/lightning/hail shower at 6:20 this morning?
  18. I was holding out for the midnight to 5am forecast and it's looking really good out there right now. Very heavy so I hope the temp drops and it sticks
  19. Just came in looking like a drowned rat after nipping to the shop - came over really quickly but surprised no lightening.
