I suppose anything extra is a bonus, after all we were expecting nothing today.

Radar showing the intensity dropping as it hits the cold air, be lucky to get anything past midday.

Snowing here now - not fine grains either, only light - but it's calm, no wind at moment.

Coming in quicker though mild could push in quicker....

I think we all new writing was on the wall for our snow prospects when we lost a couple of opportunities this week, air becoming dry, any snow always moving 'potentially' a few days away. Usual pattern.
Matt Hugo tweeted showing the mild coming right in, very mild and wet starting next week and any chance we have of snow literally minimal end of February as any block would have to be frigid or we will always be on wrong side of marginal due to the time of year.

Few dissenting voices in South East thread already gloomy with lack of white stuff compared to what they thought was coming. Dry on the whole for us for a few days then we gotta hope mild does not break through.

I see Derek is Tweeting on the line of cold and dry, od shower skirting east Wales - then we get milder mid-week.
Never raise hopes from any easterly direction - we just need stronger winds penetrating the showers more in land and kinks in the flow!
Alas, not looking good at this moment, perhaps there still time for changes, as I am sure there will be.

1982 - wow, great memories. I was 10.
Three things anyone below maybe 35/40 won't understand:
1. Proper power cuts. Like no heating or lights for 72 hours. Candles and a Calor gas heater to huddle around.
2. Snow so deep that we made a full-on bobsleigh track in a field. Banked corners the lot.
3. No school for 4 weeks because of frozen pipes in the outside toilets.
I was 16 - we were building igloos!

I love that! I reckon you should post that in the MAD thread - they’ll love it.

I think some of the stuff currently around Bristol looks like it could hook to South East Wales and keep going for a while, just need the intensity to keep up with it.

Is there any chance if it keeps coming down it will eventually stick on roads and pavements?
If the dew points are right it will stick

Any idea what it's like over Caerphilly mountain? Need to drive over there tomorrow morning for work.
Thanks
Same here, that's my route to Heath!

No infernal drip yet which is good, feels quite chilly out there and hope that's the way it stays all day.
A few flakes still coming down, light outside now but the nice snow glow in the house I have missed for some time.

2 cars only made it halfway up my street and just abandoned across road - light snow again now, seems to be distinctly colder now as well.

From what I can see the main snow band is now only in a minor pivot and following a more north/north east trajectory. This is different to what it was showing an hour ago - and to what was 'predicted'. Pivot less pronounced.
I think for newer/younger members, seeing how difficult this is to track - even within this miniscule timeframe shows how/why people say it is difficult to forecast snow in the UK even within in a 24 hour timescale.
It does what it wants and nowcasting is always mentioned, but genuinely always the case to be more relaible - as that is what is happening outside your window!

It's due to swing back later on so maybe a bit more snow then.
Well my enthusiasm tempered - it's just turned to heavy drizzle outside - this is not on!
Didn't think that was an outcome.

I think it's starting to pivot already.
Yes Jay definitely more pronounced now, just an hour too late for us I think.

Anyone know what the temperature profiles are today - are we expecting the majority of the snow to melt or are we staying cold enough to maintain coverings?

My guess is that it'll pivot somewhere between Gloucester and Birmingham, the further south the better for those of us in South Wales.
Sweet spot will be Bristol/West Midlands
