Bargoed photographs are at 5am, must be snowing as 5am on a Sunday for me to be up and looking - and I even decided to get up as the white friend is a rare visitor recently! My 5 year old grandson will be so excited later to see the snow.
It does look as Salisbury area might have been in the sweet spot as there is heavier pulses there, but we got ours . Think it might pivot too late for us in Valleys, it's already too far east, hope I am wrong. (not being greedy.... but...)

Yes, I think I agree with this.
It's rare and likely won't happen on this occasion, but the Bristol Channel can be our friend in South Wales in a cold spell, acting as a funnel and directing snow into Cardiff and the Valleys. Almost lake-effect. I'm not sure if anyone remembers it but this happened unexpectedly on December 19th, 2009, and left quite a bit of snow.
Yes, I remember that in 2009, was fabulous.

Don't panic panic! The front will slow .

I'm having a sinking feeling same as some might be alluding to. Definitely looks like the direction is not conducive to the south, definitely further north and looks none too intense and coming in too fast.
I certainly hope I am missing something - but not want it to be the snow!

Hah! I think I'd actually prefer that than for it to somehow bypass Wales altogether and deliver its white gold to Southeast England. Can you imagine the looks on our faces?
I agree, I definitely would NOT want it ending up in the South East as the thread would be unbearable - not that it's much fun nowadays, in here is the place to be and let's gets something later to get the buzz in here and make them all jealous - would be nice
Nice and clean, no drama, no downgrades, just right one cue.

There is also the one you forgot - before number 1 - the front stalls completely just off Cornwall, we all wake up/stay up - and nothing happens - the front doesn't even make it! Hopefully it's your last one

I was just going to post I liked the look of that wrap around too - it could even create a stall for some time giving larger accumulations.

Raining heavy here in Bargoed area.
Large hailstones just before I came home via Caerphilly mountain.
Currently 4.3°C here, mild...... or too 'mild' for snow

Pleasantly surprised by the 00Z. I suspect it's overdoing it in terms of snow today and tomorrow - it shows the potential for wintry showers affecting both the south and at various times as more organised and widespread than it actually is - but I'm going to put my neck on the line and suggest that what it's modelling for Sunday is fairly accurate: a spell of widespread snow across Wales down to low-ish levels, possibly even sea level, with amounts still TBD.
Sounds quite reasonable to me - let's keep our fingers crossed that it comes to fruition - we will get our thread top of the list most of the day then

At least we didn't have any disappointment today, we knew we were not getting anything.
Next week not looking good and I also believe we are on wrong side of marginal all the time and with no real cold in the pipeline it looks like we have another winter month fizzling away into mediocrity as much as I want to stay positive. I am always hopeful for the SSW to kick in with the right results for us.

Must say looking at the BBC foecast this morning - we got a cold 4°c to look forward to all week - but just grey and cloudy?
I thought we were due a bit of 'excitement' this week - but there is no precipitation on their forecast whatsoever except for the South East (England)?
That will be another week of nothingness, boring tedium - and closer to mid Jan - this isn't a winters over post - but it seems to be dwindling again even with all the supposedly superb background signals. Where/when is the snow fun going to start - I thought it was next week!

Sleeting here...sort of...I'm looking a it glass half full, it still December, chance of a colder set up establishing its self and a few months of winter to go yet
Rain here in Gilfach

I agree with the previous couple of posts, we are getting more rain with snow for the higher elevations or late night when it is cold and we are all in bed - turning to rain early am!
Also, in the MOD thread are we seeing the first wobbles to the start of watering down of the cold spell? I certainly hope not but it's not as if we haven't been here many times before.
Think we are just going to have to ride this week out and cross everything we got....

It's all been absorbed by Devon and Cornwall surprisingly. Chaos there.

Yeah looking at netweather radar the front seems to have stalled over north cornwall devon and is struggling to get north for main band
Same as what i see - we would need it to wrap back around from the east - more over there!
-
Looks like the pivot has occurred sooner than expected so it's not going as far north - so the front is not coming as far north which is why we have seen such slow progress. Prepare disappointment!.

Looks like it's all starting to kick off now... folk on high ground are in for a wild night
Not so sure - there isn't a massive amount of intensity there - seems to be having the life sucked out of it

Snowing in Gilfach now (Bargoed)
-
-5.2 °C here - brrrr. Off to work early so can leave early!
Are we still looking around 2pm for fun and games to start or is it earlier/later in the progression of the front?
-
Apparently Arpege not so keen on the snow tomorrow on latest runs and pushing mostly a rain event.
The uncertainty will go down to a nowcast but looks like milder air going to be more prominent.
