It did weaken but it was still a Cat 5 until near Great Inagua Island near Cuba.

I meant above Cuba and it looks pretty close to it on that picture. My original point was that islands like Anguilla and Barbuda didn't effect its strength only once it got a bit further on towards Hispaniola.

It was a Cat 5 all the way until near Cuba.

Irma hasn't really made any landfalls yet only small islands and scraping the coast of Cuba and the direct landfalls on the small islands didn't weaken it which was expected.

On the live report from Barbuda people said containers were flying over their heads and some people had to tie themselves to the roof to not blow away...

The only positive about Barbuda is that it has a relatively small population of 1.5k people. Reports suggest people are ok. To be fair despite a lot of roofs being blown off, most building have not collapsed or been blown away. Had this come 20 years ago I suspect we'd be looking at a different story in terms of damage.
