  1. That was really crazy last night.

In Torquay about 7pm, there were some little bits of sleet hitting the windscreen, but I didn't think anything of it.

Making my way home around 8.30 and still no real difference, it was showing 4-5 degrees.

Then the temp really started dropping between Torquay and Totnes, which is when the snow started. Again, not terrible, but bad enough with all the flooding.

Once through Totnes, snow really got going. Visibility was absolutely dreadful. I've never driven in anything that bad, mostly because of the sheer amount of standing water that I couldn't see because of the snow hitting the windscreen.

I was actually really lucky I got home when I did - half hour later and I could well have been stuck! Plenty of reports across Devon of people abandoning their cars😬

It just shows how difficult it is to predict snow. Has caught everyone by surprise.

Just a small patch of snow left on grass this morning - with heavy rain, strong winds and possibly some thunder and lightning to come later today lol.

  2. Radar still suggesting darker blues and greens around here - there's absolutely nothing in the air at all, rain, sleet or snowπŸ˜‚

Agree it is disappointing, but I guess the models and MetO had backed away from any warning scenario few days ago. So no surprise.

Germany for example will see a fair chunk with 5-15cm snow, up to 30-40cm in places😭😭

Looks like its snowing on the Kingsbridge cam. Could be rain but looks like snow. Some heavier precip heading into Salcombe but cam is pitch black and there's a spiders web over it.

In Kingsbridge and no sign of any moisture on the ground at all this morning, wind has picked up a lot.Β

If it did manage to snow then it didn't do much damage it must be saidπŸ˜‚

Well it's slightly chaotic down here.

    Plymouth flooding everywhere.

    A379 shut at Modbury landslip

Issues on A38 /A30/A383 , concerns on A386 between Bideford and Torrington.

    Now issues in Lympstone,Β  Moretonhampstead.

No trains past Plymouth and most branch lines closed.

Exactly, as usual our local infrastructure suffers disproportionately when bad weather hits. There aren't many alternatives when roads like the A379 get shut! Lanes will be busyπŸ˜‚

  5. Very breezy this morning, we are high up nr Kingsbridge. Several showers already.

Drove home on M5 last night and visibility was dreadful from Weston jct onwards with all the spray. Thankfully standing water not too bad, but a few dicey sections getting home!

The associated rainfall over next day or so could also have significant impacts, not just the wind. Ground is certainly saturated and rain has nowhere to go other than running off fields.

  6. Very interesting couple of days coming up, it really is hard to tell how South Devon is going to fare with Storm Ciaran.

Doesn't seem to have generated much interest locally so far - strange seeing as we are under an Amber warning!

Certainly looks very concerning for the Channel Islands, Brittany etc., as things stand. Wouldn't take much for the really concerning winds to move into this part of the country.
