  1. I too was just thinking the exact same. Rather exciting model watching right now, hoping 2nd half of January will be a bit special. Even if I can't drive in snow ? Perhaps we could send a wee bottle of Black Bush (we need a emoji for that) to the model thread to help them in their wake? They are mourning the baby that never was
  2. Guys I read this everyday and still learning. Would appreciate if you'd expand on abbreviations please. Mods don't delete me just yet.... my late grandmother had a sister in Boston MA, we we always told we'd get her weather in Northern Ireland within a fortnight. Right enough, in my childhood memory it seemed to be right. Is there any truth in this? Do the models back this up in any way? Do the models giving cold in NE USA also affect us or is this this a childhood memory based on no fact? thanks in advance! Ali
  3. I fell on black ice yesterday and have wrecked my coccyx, incredibly sore. So now I'm off work with no excuse not to be watching every latest edition of the weather models. My lamppost is also broken and despite reporting it weeks ago nothing has been done to fix it.
  4. Just been out walking the dogs, the snow is just amazing, it's frozen and has that very satisfying crispy crunch sound when you step on it. Made great snowballs. Considering My lack of altitude living close to the City Airport I am very pleased to have had a drop of the white stuff.
  5. 2c now and big fat wet snow flakes in East Belfast.
  6. Hey guys, I'm a winter lurker. I spend hours on here over the winter months reading posts, but have nothing new to add so never/rarely post. Sincerely hoping for a wee bit of the magical white stuff this coming weekend in East Belfast. It's my birthday too so would be a perfect present. I'm not going to get too stressed about snow charts predictions for here. Experience tells me that they are somewhat inaccurate especially for N/NW flow As they say let's get the cold in place and pray for some serious precipitation ? Good luck! Ali
  7. Glad to hear some happy snow reports. It tried to snow quite hard in Belfast last night but just didn't lie. Awh well, someday I will stand on snow again in my wee garden instead of just admiring it on the hills surrounding Belfast.
  8. Sadly not a flake of lying snow in east Belfast. Plenty of snow overnight but didn't stick.
  9. A friend of mine is in Tenerife and it's snowing! He would have had better weather back here.... Isn't that saying something. Was speaking with a Polish gent today and he was telling me how much their winters and summers have changed in recent years too. Im still keeping the faith that winter will arrive.... The dice will eventually go our way.
  10. Well... Told you my long shift would bring snow, but just not for me, I at least had no worries about driving today. Tiny skiff at 6am here in Belfast which isn't bad considering I'm not far from city airport and being too close to sea level. Lots of short but heavy snow showers which were fabulous to watch but didn't last long enough for snow to really settle. Thanks for all the snow pictures... Planning my next house move based on these pictures, the more snow the more likely I could end up you neighbour..... I totally need to get out of Belfast! Snowydog I lived in Doagh for a few years and snow was brilliant. so storm Henry, how bad will it be?
  11. Brill! Imagine doing that for your Newtweather chums. Gathering at yours in April then?
  12. Bound to snow in Bangor, I'm doing a 14 hr shift in a certain medical institution in Dundonald.... It'll snow because I'm a woman who can't drive in snow (lacks experience but willing to learn might be a better phrase). My shift pattern is better than any weather model when it come to snow apparently..... Good luck Bangor, I will be rooting for you!
  13. Weegaz, don't worry I'm a midwife. You organise the snow and I will organise the homebirth. What could be more awesome that a lovely wee homebirth In front of an open fire during a blizzard. Mates rates apply of course lol! All the best!
  14. Hey folks, I've been lurking about. That model thread is highly amusing. seems to be a few bipolar types...on a total high one minute and suicidal the next. If I hear the phrase that winter is over for this year one more time though I will crack.... If I could give them a good slap and tell them to wise up I would so I will do it virtually! north/ northwesterlies, yes please! It may not excite those in Kent but hey ho. I predict there's a reasonable good chance of snow Saturday. Purely because I'm working a 14 hr shift and our best snows always arrive when I'm working, and not for any scientific reason. Anyone have any advice if so about driving in it? I have read conflicting advice on the internet that I should keep either as low a gear or as high gear as possible! Confused! I obviously need more winters driving practice LOL Hope you're all well my dears. If snow arrives Saturday you can thank my shift pattern
  15. Perhaps some kind knowledgable person can point me in right direction, I'm trying to learn.... From an Northern Irish point of view what would be the perfect weather chart for winter fun and games? In my head we do well with Northerlies as the easterlies rarely seem to make it here, and if they do they've Run out of steam. I see lots of posters in the model thread praying for an easterly... But assume they are mostly southern/eastern UK people who would get the benefit from them. what happened in 2009 and 2010 to make it such an epic winter? thanks.
  16. It's been miserable in Belfast today, very cold (max 3.2 in daylight, now 4.5) grey and dull and the rain has drizzled on and off all day, ran a local parkrun this morning and the combination of ice with fresh rain was lethal. If it's to be grey and wet it might as well be mild (believe me I'm not a mild person). Last night was awesome.... Hard frost, Ice +++. Today is a sad comeback to reality Fingers crossed for rest of winter. This weather watching is such an emotional rollercoaster.
  17. Maybe a few inches max looking at the pictures, kids managed to make snowballs and snowman.... But I live in East Belfast, close to the coast, so that was a good amount for our location, my parents in Lisburn always get double. If schools were closed it must have been significant.
  18. Yes, My best friend had her first baby in February 2009. I remember waiting for news as I knew she was in labour and my own kids were off school due to snow. this was 5th Feb 2009....
  19. 1.3c here. Just had a touch of a very light hail shower, Ground dry otherwise. Clouds look very thin. Im off to bed. If I wake in the morning to a white scene it will be a real blessing.... If not I will keep on hoping. Night all. Hope you sleep well.
  20. Absolutely thrilled and delighted for all of you who have seen some snow. and now we will hold a moments silence for poor East Belfast ..... But the night is yet young and anything could happen!
  21. Was training at Mary Peters Track early this evening. It was like a skating rink with ice, it was cold but didn't expect ice at 6.30pm Tell me, from this evenings charts it's looking a bit more favourable for us?
  22. I'm beginning to fear the worse. To be honest even one to two good days of winter/snow would keep me happy so long as Theres a bit of frost/ice/crisp blue skies about to give me a taster of winter. We should'nt get disheartened.... Remember March 2013, that gives us a good 9 weeks + still for models to get act together.. tried to search on the Torpedo BTW and Couldn't find the original explanation but it sounds like hitting base end of January. Yup I will go with that even if I don't have a flipping clue what it means apart from colder! happy model watching X
  23. What is this torpedo people are talking about? I'm hopeful once we get the cold in place that we will see some white stuff if we get precipitation. Northern Ireland, in my memory, often gets a bit more snow than they tend to forecast or snow when it not even forecast (remember March 13?) so for now it's fingers crossed and lamp post watching. enjoy your week!
