with the transition from strong El Nino into La Nina we may see a summer similar to 1998
-
miserable day again today snowing again this morning..generally damp and cold all round.
-
Addicks Fan 1981 looks like all members as of yesterday are forecasting a La Nina of some sort.
-

snow is back in the forecast overnight and tomorrow it wont be too bad here but think of those poor lot down in the Calgary area who could get up to 40cm in the next few days...

1978 was also similar slightly cooler at overall 14.4c don't remember how wet it was though.
interestingly the period 1902-1922 had 7 summers that sit in the top 30 coldest summers in the records obviously 1913 doesn't make it
Addicks Fan 1981 1993 sits at 112 coldest..in my lifetime the top 3 coldest summers are 1972 (too young to remember) at 23 on the list and 1977 at 38 and 1978 at 41.

noticed it was still light here when i went to bed at 9.30pm last night
-
SqueakheartLW looking at previous La Nina and how they developed from an El Nino im 90% sure we are heading into a La Nina..the set up and the cooling is very similar to previous transitions

sundog calling BS on the statement on sea surface temps hitting "shocking new high" average global sea surface temperatures are exactly the same as they were a year ago in April 2023 as they are now at 21.1c in 2016 they were 21.0c (last el nino).

MP-R August 1995 i would describe as very much in the vein of a typical July/August i get here on the Canadian prairies..dry warm/hot with low humidity and enough of a breeze to make it almost perfection in terms of summer weather

i wasn't in the uk In those years ..but sounds like a similar which was better May 1989 or May 1990 both were a couple of bobby dazzlers
-
MP-R IMO 1995 was better than 1976 ..im just old enough to remember 1976 but 1995 was the best summer of my lifetime
