Interesting getting storms here in Hertfordshire coming from the east. I am more akin to them coming from the south, the south east, the south west, west etc.
-
2nd covering of the day also occurring here in East Hertfordshire.

Well I have made it still in Wednesday night/ Thursday morning warning just issued. Very much close to Southen extent.
Should be interesting.

Thaw of whatever lying snow happening at pace here in SW Lonson. Expect all of it to be gone by mid-day. This evening's snow is looking more and more likely to be rain now - at least for southern counties.
Any idea how this evening is looking for North London counties?

My altitude appears to be between 240ft and 270ft in Sawbridgeworth according to my car on a short drive in to town today. Does that seem right?
Still snowing here. Nice dusting.

Even a little bit of altitude makes a difference
I am not certain of my altitude but yes my location being far enough away from coast, far enough away from heat of urban London. Does often do quite well from snow from this direction.

Over 1cm heading now towards 2cm of snow on the top of fence here in East Hertfordshire.

Agreed. Looks 50 miles further North.

Has rained for hours but still loads of snow around as we head in to dark. Pleased with the week long spell. I think we might have another spell this winter.

I have said goodbye to our snowman. He lost his eyes and nose a moment ago. Feel like bringing him in to our freezer the little fella.

Reports to be -6 here in East Hertfordshire.

As others said, hardly any snow has melted. Still very similar scene to start of week. I wont mind it being washed away at weekend.
A great start to winter. Hopefully at least another spell before it is out would be great.

-6 here. That is pretty damn cold. I am sure roads better. But would think extremely dangerous in parts and certainly on pavements for walkers a real danger. Do take care all.

Anywhere I can get an animation of the radar from yesterday?
To add I also enjoyed the direction this snow came from. My location seems to do best from NE or even Easterly. So was interesting to see it travel up from where it did.

Yes all that area you mentioned seemed perfect setup, benefitted from that pivot.

In Epping Forest this morning the level was widely 14-15cm in open spots. More like 12cm in Walthamstow on the roads and in front gardens etc.
February 2009 is the obvious last event I can think of which beat this snow depth for this area, although I have a question mark in head about overnight 4-5th February 2012. I remember a similar depth (before quickly thawing in the afternoon). Any locals remember any details about this one?
Temperature here currently at 12:30 is -0.6C. This lying snow is going nowhere fast.
Wondering if around Epping Forest sort of way was the jackpot zone. Certainly seems some of highest totals down in that kind of area. I am a bot north of there. Seems a smidge less.

Warning extended further north.

Here near M11 at East Herts seem to have been almost perfectly aligned with squall of heavy rain for what seems hours.
Would think the warning might have needed to cover here, but maybe not. Warning seems about 15 miles SE of here.

Very interesting for me. Almost a bit winter like streamer action.
The persistence of the heavy rain and occasionally stormy shows for 2 nights running from the east.
