  1. Not even a hint of blue sky or sunshine here today, just a dull miserable sheet of cloud and occasional drizzle.
  2. I woke up at 5.30 this morning and could see what I thought were very faint and distant lightning flashes. I checked the radar and the nearest sferics were just off the Hampshire coast, approximately 100 miles away. Skies overhead here were clear and starlit so I thought it couldn't possibly be lightning, but my own observations from my back garden and other reports from elsewhere seem to confirm it was indeed lightning from a storm in that area.
  3. The Hastings Seafood and Wine Festival becomes yet another victim in a list of recent events locally which have been spoiled by bad weather. A shame because today got off to such a good start with blue skies all morning. :-(.
  4. The winds on this part of the south coast are stonger than I was expecting for sure.
  5. It certainly feels a lot stronger just along the coast here in Hastings
  6. Some pretty strong winds down here on the south coast, and has been for the last couple of hours at least.
  7. That clip is just a loop and has been doing the rounds here and elsewhere for several days.
  8. Meanwhile down here on the south coast its been a continuous stream of torrential downpours since about midday.
  9. Had a number of fairly brief but intense dowpours rattling through here in the last 2-3 hours, localised flooding on some roads. Sitting under my patio canopy expecting a huge clap of thunder any minute but sadly nothing in that way so far. I have to admit though it seems a bit churlish to bemoan that given what's happening further afield.
  10. As a rough guide for now though, June comes 1st, July 2nd, and August 3rd. That said, I rated all 3 months slightly above average
  11. Thanks for your reply BW. I'm still sifting through everything at the moment so will try and give a more detailed breakdown in the next few days.
  12. Based on my unscientific observations, summer here has been about as average as it gets. Since June 1st I've been scoring each day out of 10, with 5 being average. I've taken my readings from nearby Herstmonceux, and based my scores on what I consider to be the average maximum temperature/sunshine hours/rainfall for this general location. I'll post my scores and thoughts later if anyones interested. 0
  13. Another day as dull as dishwater here with sullen skies and occasional spells of swirling drizzle. Temperatures have ranged from a minimum of 16.5c to a maximum of 18.3c with zero in the way of sunshine. Sitting in the garden tonight it feels more like a tropical rain forest ( albeit not as warm as one ) with the constant drip drip from the vegetation and dewpoints matching the temperature.
  14. Just spent an hour down at the seafront here watching the lightning out in The Channel. It doesn't seem to want to make the crossing though. Sounds like folk inland are having a good show, some superb photo's here tonight, well done and thanks for sharing them.
  15. I don't. At 8pm last night I was sitting outside in my garden sipping a cold beer and savouring every minute of the fact I could do that with the temperature still at 23c. 24 hours later I'm huddled under a canopy wearing a fleece and it's been raining non-stop for 11 hours here ( and still is ) and it's currently 11c. Where's the fun in that ?
  16. It's been a while since I've seen such a change in the weather in a 24 hour period. The contrast between today and yesterday here in Hastings/St Leonards-on-Sea is quite something. Yesterdays Tmax of 26.4c was accompanied by almost 8.5 hours of sunshine. It was the warmest day this month, and the warmest day since July 18th which recorded 26.7c. Todays Tmax of 17.8c was recorded between 00:00-01:00 hours. The Tmax since sunrise is a paltry 13.5c recorded between 13:00-14:00 hours, making it the coldest daytime max since May 9th ( 12.9c ). As if that's not bad enough, it started raining around 9am here and has continued non-stop since. Thank goodness this muck arrived after the Bank Holiday.
  17. I admire your enthusiasm but have my doubts about the potential for this evening/tonight. I hope I'm wrong of course.
  18. Just hoping this late burst of summer holds out for tomorrows event on Hastings Pier: http://hastingspier.org.uk/event/day-tripper-ocean-colour-scene-w-the-bootleg-beatles-and-peter-hook-the-light/
  19. I'm watching it live now, the camera view switches from time to time but it's still up and running. Edit to update: It looks quite ferocious there right now.
  20. Once the cloud cover and milky skies prevalent here for the last few days finally cleared, this afternoon turned out to be about as good as a late summers day can get. Clear blue skies, barely a breeze and feeling warmer than the Tmax of 22.2c would suggest. It was the 2nd warmest day of the month, failing to beat the previous modest max of 22.6c. No complaints though.
  21. Galveston seawall webcam here : http://www.galveston.com/seawallvideocam/ Looking pretty rough there already.
  22. I posted earlier today on another weather forum in response to folk who were posting about conditions being 'exceptionally warm' and 'oppressively humid' here in the South East today. (Quote )"A slightly tongue in cheek comment from me so please don't take it too seriously, but l'm beginning to question the reliability of my internal body thermostat. Has it really been 'exceptionally warm' and 'oppressively humid' here in the South East today ? It's felt anything but to me, hence me doubting my own body now I'm 11 miles fom Herstmonceux and the readings from there suggest a Tmax of 21.6c and a DP max of 18.4c. It's been another boring cloudfest here though, with barely a hint of blus sky or sunshine all day long. " (Unquote) Just goes to show how differently we can perceive the weather I guess ?
  23. Great video Bazookabob, that near continuous thunder is something else !
