The real question is can the Belgian and French storms make it across the water? They’ve struggled the past few days...

It’s really humid out there right now. Got eyes on the anvil of the cell over Kent but it’s moving the wrong way! Not ruling anything out though...

Looks like that Kent Cell is dying. Hasn’t put out anything for a little while. That’s two storms in about 3 weeks that have come close but not close enough. Hopefully I’ll get my first rumble in 2018 soon, we’re already two days behind last year!

That’s a tiny little cell over SE London, but pretty intense! I would’ve thought I’d be able to see the clouds on that from here, but it’s really hazy.

Got a tower appeared to the NW of here, even though we’re not due anything until later, and even then the risk is low..... Conditions must be good up there.

Convective/Storm Discussion Thread - 1st August onwards
Thunderstruck replied to Supacell's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
Cloud and humidity absolutely soared in the past couple of hours. Definitely wouldn’t rule anything out in Essex, even if not directly in my area -

Think it’s died now, so still waiting for my first rumble of 2018. Did see my first lightning though. -

Very dark sky to the NW which is apparently producing lightning. Haven’t seen any yet but keeping my eyes peeled... Edit: Just saw a little CG! Might skirt me to the north though. We’ll see -

Quite an active cell up near Cambridge by the looks of it on radar -

Now looking like only rain here tonight now. Shame, but not the end of the world. There were certainly some corkers out there tonight, and I’m happy for those of you who got the chance to enjoy them. -

That cell near Gatwick now has a more Northerly trajectory, which is bad for my chances tonight. Not calling bust yet, but having doubts now. Still, only April -

I’ve been trying to work out for a little while if this storm approaching Gatwick will hit me or just miss to the West, but I can’t make up my mind, so I’d be interested to hear your thoughts. For reference, I’m below the letter ‘t’ in Southend as you see it on the map -

Slowly but surely there’s activity appearing further to the East in the Channel! This is good. Considering it’s still only April the amount of lightning around the UK in general is quite incredible tonight. -

Few strikes starting to appear further east of the main lot in the Channel. That’s got my name on it! In fact, as I was typing, a Met Office warning of rain was issued from 20:30 today until 06:00 in the morning. Could be a noisy night! -

Cloud developing rapidly now, and darkening to the west. Last I checked we weren’t due anything here till after 9pm. Is that still the case? -

Little pockets of ac cas beginning to appear here now. Hopefully that’s a good sign for later, but not too soon as we’re having a BBQ! -

Well, here we are again. New season, new name (formerly Jcweather) and ready for some fun later. Hopefully anyway. It’s certainly nice and sunny here which will be helping with surface heating. Let’s hope we’re not disappointed, but I’m quite prepared to be... -

I’ve just seen a video posted on Twitter of thundersnow at Oakworth up in Yorkshire. Can’t link to it as I’m on my phone but it’s pretty cool. Been a good few years since I last had thundersnow -
I have a flight out of Heathrow at 9:05 Saturday morning. Anyone have any idea if it may be affected by this incoming weather system, Brian or otherwise?

Hurricane Ophelia
Thunderstruck replied to Jo Farrow's topic in Hurricanes, Cyclones and Extreme weather worldwide
Still gusting up to about 35-40 here which I must admit is more than I expected. Out of what little I can make of the sunset, it still seems pretty dusty up there...
