We've just had the most amazing shower, it lasted about 15 minutes and now everything is covered again. Enormous flakes and loads of them. Hopefully the temperature will start to drop and this will stay around for a while.

Just started snowing again as the raintoday radar was showing. Only very light at the moment.

Just been up to the stables and it is snowing nicely in Bacup, a good covering on everything and looks like it is intensifying. Radar shows another hour or so at least to come.

there is a big shower but idont know if its to the north, south, east or west of me lol but it looks like we could just catch it
If you look at raintoday website you can see on the radar

We still have a covering from yesterday, but now we have freezing fog, everything is becomming covered in a layer of white frost, very pretty, but deadly under foot, the local weather station is giving a ground temperature of minus 4.5. Looking at the radar is that irish sea streamer moving to the north a bit so it may give us some thing later?

When I woke up briefly at 1.30 it was still snowing then. We have about 3cm of light fluffy snow covering everything, no wind so every twig and branch has a covering.

Started getting a bit heavier now and flakes getting slightly bigger and its starting to settle on the roads, cars etc and got a dusting in some places. Looking at the radar on raintoday its rotating around me so might have a bit of this yet. Might be in for a slight covering at this rate!
Same here, its been snowing since about 6pm and now its starting to settle and as you say looking at the radar there appears to be plenty more around.

Snowing lightly here.

Looking at the latest Raintoday radar picture, the precipitation that went north through Bacup is now coming back down towards it again and joining up with the stuff coming up from the south, does this mean its all about to shoot eastwards rather than carry on tracking north do you think?

What a surprise, it was heavy sleet at 1030 last night and now its all white! I would say between 2-3 cms on everything and also its icy. It doesnt feel like it will stay around there is that drip drip coming from the eaves.

Its now 0715 and its snowing again.

Looking at the gfs so far, the snow risk for this area is increasing all the time, a vast improvement, even looks very heavy and more cold air coming in around the low which was not shown on the earlier run.
Fingers crossed that my altitude will make all the difference.

Seems to be a bit more sleety here in the heavy bursts. Hopefully the temperatures will start to drop and it will turn to snow as the night progresses.

Snowing quite heavily here in Bury and looking like a few more showers following the same line on the radar, hopefully this is actually settling properly in Bacup which is about 800ft higher than here.

I've just gone up to the stables and it's snowing, only very light but it is settling on the frosty surfaces. There is nothing on the radar, but this is Bacup and it comes out of nowhere, it must be our height.

Just driven from Bury to Bacup and had heavy snow with large flakes all the way, its settling on roads and pavements quite happily now. All the trees, grass etc are totally covered and there appears to be loads more heading in this direction.

Light snow in Bury now but intensifying as I type!

Its showing slight precipitation on the radar, but nothing at all is coming out of the sky. Also about 1/2 hour ago it was showing a blizzard over bury and there was nothing, maybe this was a fault on the radar.
Has anyone in the region seen anything, rain or snow?

Well that was rather a surprise, it's snowed in Bacup already, the cold air has arrived and things are freezing up. Roll on tomorrow!!

Just been snowing lightly but with proper flakes in Bury, settled on the grass, but only a few flakes so cant been seen unless you look. Was very pretty against the sun set.

could be a snow event tonight, mainly on high ground in the north, 528 dam and 850's around -5c with low ground temps im only 70m asl and its 2.5c dp point still high at 1.5c but could turn wintry if there is any heavier bursts from the developing shallow low...
NW seen the potential with the current watch issued.
I can easily believe this, as I look out of the window at the moment the snow content of the rain comes and goes depending on the intensity.

After a whole day here in Bury where it's snowed consistently but produced nothing, I have just looked out of the window and its starting to settle, all the cars are white and the car park is on the way too. What will it be like at home which is 800 ft higher than here! Half an hour and I can drive home and see!

Snowing lightly in Bury and is intensifying slightly as time passes. Looking at the Rain today radar there is some more heading this way, whether it will make it to Bacup I am unsure at the moment, but I think we've really had enough there already, I still have very inconvenient snow drifts in my garden!!

Its been a cold, damp, horrible sort of day in these parts; one which i've spent much of the time outside clearing snow and the crap that it becomes once the temperature reaches the dizzy heights of +1c.
Obviously can't speak for other parts of the region but in Rossendale; certainly Bacup, very little of the snow on the ground has actually melted.
It's still around 10 inches deep in the garden and hard packed over a foot deep on the pavements higher up the hill and we've had what was possibly more light snow late this afternoon.
I say possibly because it could well have been already fallen snow blown off the fields by the gusty winds.
The main road from Bacup to Burnley has actually been closed or barely passable for much of the day because of drifting snow with the Bacup to Todmorden one in a similar difficult state.
I know many comparisons have been made during the last week or so with past winters but in my opinion; the last 3 weeks or so have been probably the worst in these parts since certainly 1982 and probably 1979.
A bold statement and one which i can't back up with evidence but we've had snow on the ground here since 17th December and whilst we had some bigger falls in the early 80's winters, i can't remember snow lying as long as it has now since the winter of 1979.
I do like snow; always have done but i must admit that i'm very quickly getting tired of it now, both phsically and mentally.
I long for the days when you can walk out of the house and get in the car, start it and set off rather than find it, dig it out, hope it starts and then slide of in whichever direction the packed ice takes you.
Roll on spring but if the lovely Diane Oxberry is forecasting more snow for the region tonight then it's looking a long way off.

Oh, I agree with you, I love the snow, but would really like this to go now and give us a break, even if its only for a week. My garden is now a load of deep drifts where the snow has blown off my field and walking up the steps to the top of the garden is now rather hazardous, I acually slipped and sat down in it today trying to get the dogs to come in. Every night I drive back from Bury where its thawing and as I drive up into the valley I cannot believe it hasn't gone even a little bit.
Looks like we're due some more tonight so another nerve shattering decent down my drive tomorrow!

As previously requested I have compressed my pictures, I'm very sorry about their original size, I must adjust the resolution on my camera.
I have also added in a couple from Friday morning as well.
