  1. You are in Hastings... right? Down on seafront... snow that even if it settled and continued for an hour wouldn't look like a frost!
  2. www.fjbhotels.co.uk/liveview View over Poole Harbour from a hotel near Sandbanks. As it zooms in to the "mid-zoom" (you'll see what I mean) you can make out it has started snowing there at sea level. It's coming!
  3. You will be more lucky inland than I on the seafront for sure! Shall find out in an hour or so.
  4. Liam Dutton just mentioned pivoting earlier than expected so more likely to remain further south now.
  5. Jebus... and down to sea level during the day. Looks like where Poldark was filmed! Gives me hope for later.
  6. Current state of affairs wind-wise. Nullschool - live wind direction and speed
  7. Wondering if that low being spoken about off the SW coast is assisting in pushing things through faster? I think it is possible for some wintriness before the main band comes a little later anyway. We'll see.
  8. Not a speck of rain or flake of snow from the little something over Hastings on the radars right now. Cloud is right above now and can see clearer/brighter skies out to sea. Just got a hunch I'm going to be unlucky later being right on the seafront so may go for a wander inland tomorrow to get my fix!
  9. I'll let you know in about 45 minutes. I'm two stone's throws away from the sea I'd say. So light on the radar and as often the case nothing actually falls.
  10. Would say that's about right. How close to the seafront are you? If it snows on your seafront before it reaches me then and only then will I get excited. I have been in over a foot of snow for 2 periods over the past 5 weeks so can't complain too much... ...yes i can
  11. I get a sense being right on Hastings seafront I will miss all the fun and games again tomorrow!
  12. Just wondering whether when this rain hits the East Sussex and Kent coasts... we may get snow right away... look at the direction of the wind coming off the NE of France where it is snowing near Calais and Amiens. It feels Arctic outside and along the coast to the East it is snowing back edge from cold to NW... whereas Hants and W Sussex coast in the middle of a warmer sector perhaps. It really feels several degrees below freezing outside right now. Would be hard to take if all we got was rain. I am however 100m metres from the sea. 20m ASL probably. More or less on the promenade.
  13. Was in Eastern Latvia twice recently. 12 days over Christmas and 5 last weekend. Had snow laying the duration of both trips. Over a foot in parts. But I want some here. It was minus 3 to minus 10 most days and right now it feels much colder. Currently on Hastings seafront. This wind is brutally cold. Only went to the shop 2 minutes away and my hands are red raw. We had sleet here at lunch time and there is something wintry in the rain now... not to be expected at this time? Wind variable but mostly S/SE. I am 100 metres from the sea but let's see what tonight brings. Brrrrr
  14. Well... if you're spending Christmas in eastern Latvia, as I am, you'd have this outside your window. Currently -5.5c here in Berzpils. 2 Christmasses in a row plus Easter both giving me a few inches to play with - currently a foot of snow in places. Although, not good for balls, or snowmen, as the snow is very dry. Here until 1st Jan... expecting 2 more periods of snow at least before then. I do feel that before the weekend we will have something to cheer about with charts showing us some promise for parts of the UK. So long as there is no disruption between 17th and 21st Jan as coming back here for a 50th birthday. Although as we know SSW's do not guarantee snow or cold, I remain hopeful of it. Few models showing cold filtering south across eastern Europe towards Greece/Turkey from 2nd/3rd/4th... but little promise that heights can build to the north as of yet. Enjoy your Christmas day one and all. Off to peel and score my sprouts as I am giving my hosts a traditional British Christmas dinner!
  15. Good morning all! Still cant get into my old account but here are some photos of the past 3 or 4 days here in Latvia. Some from Riga and the rest from rural Latvia in Berzpils (25-30km from Russian border). Will be here until 1st and flying back in the evening. Currently snowing lightly although not on radar but a good 6 to 10 inches... perhaps more in places. Expecting a little more snow over the next couple of days and temperature may get above 0c so may see a little snow melting but currently -3.5c. May add some more photos in the coming days. Have a very merry Christmas one and all! Blake
  16. Can't access my old account - have emailed about it. So "first" post from this account. As we all know, the likelihood of anything verifying 6/7+ days out is unlikely but so long as come Thursday/Friday the cold making its way towards us hasn't disappeared off the charts then we may have a little hope in seeing some snow in places... or a frost at least. I have been keeping an eye more so on this week as I am off to Latvia in a couple of days - Riga Thurs-Sat then Berzpils (not far from Russian border) for the remainder - and back on 2nd Jan. Wanted to make sure no snow would impact on my travel there. Thankfully snow has fallen where I'll be going and should remain below 0 so I can enjoy it. I do believe based on today's charts that we will see temps below the average for Christmas here and I hope for all of you staying put for Christmas that you see some snow. My other half and I have exchanged some Christmas gifts we won't be taking with us... she's only gone and bought me a weather station! Currently showing Thunderstorms forecast... I hope she kept the receipt.
