First proper winter living in Cambridge, and what strikes me is the sheer lack of snow that falls compared to the Welsh mountains where I was raised (Parents recorded 7 inches in the garden this morning)
I have been impressed this year with the widespread ice days however
Cambridge seems to be sheltered from all directions and lacks altitude.....however....I am sure you can tell me there are worse places to be for snow amounts on average (west of Cambridge seems to be a snow shadow towards Bedford way too?) -
Snow almost evaporating to nought here Cambridge :'(

So a slightly different snow flake is expected for us down here in cornwall from two weeks ago?
naturally, very special are they! ... Myth says Cornish snow is so rare, anyone tasting the snowflakes on their lips will instantly become a Cornish language poet and King Arthur comes back from his grave to fight for ancient Britain against the saxons..........
Can you feel the sarcasm yet XD ..... I have Cornish family down Truro way..lovely part of the world.....hope you get a sniff of the white stuff- 1

They say we live on a small island....yet further north looks like a different world... my parents got 6 inches of snow in northern Wales :'(

We should keep track of when the last snaw from your areas leaves....
Will the Scottish mountains retain a few patches of compacted snow for a whole year this time?- 1

This was a snow drift in the process of being hacked at by farmers this morning........finally cleared...letting my parents get to the shops and buy food for the first time in 5 days.
They only live 210m asl in Central North Wales....much worse drifts higher up. Thawing now quicker.
Duw duw! Parts of the A44 in Powys are still closed :O

Funny thing about the weather... it doesn't listen- 1

How high are the drifts over there? Some of the drifting in the Gwent valleys are mad.......some reach up to the first floor and you could sledge down if you were brave enough

This is good old british snow, when it fall it covers not like that cheap euro rubbish we were having last night though i do have a mini Alp mountain in the back of my garden that must be nearly 60cm.
We live in a maritime climate......the old fashioned weather is mild lol..
It's the European/Eurasian continent that gives us the goodies from the east with cold air.
You will need the gulf stream to shut down for local created cold -

If Storm Emma weakens and slips southwards and misses Britain and Ireland.....you won't be seeing temperatures between 5-9C on Sunday in East Anglia lol

"big disappointment for so many"
Thursday/ Friday is fantasy island territory in this current situation..... Wednesday night will probably have a pretty firm idea of any Friday incursion/breakdown ....but if the models disagree even then .... It's a nowcasting event- 1
