This topsy-turvy climate is exactly why we need more, to catch this excess of rain to use in the future. In March I added a m³ IBC for water storage in the garden, haven't tapped it once since. My existing butts haven't been less than 75% full since, but I have no doubt I'll be glad of the extra storage in the future. The problem is where to put new reservoirs (plus the cost).

Question is -- to water young plants or not to water this eve?
Well if the water is coming from a waterbutt, you can be confident it will be replenished tomorrow!

On the positive side, the weekend looks ok right now: mostly dry and decent temperatures.

I know forecasting is tricky at times, but given the very short timescales shouldn't the MetO by now have a better grasp of what tomorrow will be like?
Looking at the charts, they show a low forming over central Europe and moving north along the North Sea coast of Britain. I don't think the models have much experience of such a scenario compared to a standard Atlantic low.

10mm here.
Rain's stopped, still rumbling though.
That wet mess to the south doesn't look electrified.

Just back from Eryri. After amazing aurora action Friday evening, we climbed Tryfan and Glyder Gach yesterday. Then given the forecast stayed course to the car and did some climbs until 3ish. The first drops fell as we reached the car. Then drove home on the A5, thinking the coast road might miss the action and we're rewarded with heavy rain and some lighting. Fabulous convective clouds seen over Manchester, and now this! Bucketing rain, lots of lightning and some thunder. (Some of the rain was the sort that swallows thunder).
Do I see a reload between Knutsford and Wilmslow?

Very pleasant out here, until you try to do any jobs, then you realise how humid it is! Sun was out earlier, now it's just bright.

why is my location saying Shoreditch?
It's propably inferred from your IP address, which depends on you phone or internat provider. Something changed in the magic spaghetti that gets you online. You were probbaly logged out as a result, as a security thing.

21C at MAN, woohoo! Had my first outdoor lunch of the year, sat under the outbound flightpath. Lovely.

Well the forecast I saw was for light rain all day, so a few showers isn't too bad compared to that. Looking warmer from Monday onwards

I dug a new pond in my garden last month. It's to be fed from the overflow from my waterbutts, but I hadn't got around to hooking it up. Just the rainfall directly into the pond has been enough to keep it topped up since then.

35mm here, and it's picked up a little just now, so we might just beat the 38mm we got in the storm on the 12th. That was all in just 2 hours, shows how heavy that was!
