Spent yesterday on a rib on Pennington Flash doing safety support for 70 junior and youth sailors. After a flat calm at 10 the wind picked up nicely. Things got a little less pleasant after lunch as the big showers piled through, I love the way you can see the heavy precipitation coming towards you as it kicks up spray on the surface of the water. Then we were rewarded with some super rainbows.

No, it's not named after Mrs Brown, but a more consequential Irishwoman.
Actually, I had no idea the storm names were anything other than randomly chosen.

Overcast and vaguely damp here, the odd brief burst of rain. No major wind yet but I'm not expecting anything severe.

I took the ferry that landed ay Holyhead at midnight on Sunday, and was able to see the aurora from Llanfairfechan an hour later. Just a general glow, a bit more obvious in this photo, using night sight mode on a Pixel 6 Pro (hand held long ecposure). There's a bank of cloud on the horizon, the aurora stretches up into Ursa Major.

So storm Agnes is coming but I thought we already had Anthony and whatever B was last month so surely it should be C now? Why did they reset it?
Or is it a European name?
Our storm season starts in September and runs until next August.
Antoni was a Med storm, they have their own naming system. No, I see we had our own Antoni in August, wierdly the first use of a storm name from our last season's list.
Some details of the confusion here, which includes the fact we had a couple of storms that were named elsewhere before moving to us.

To be expected given the warm seas. This is the current SST anomaly from

After the heat and the fires, Greece is now getting terrible rain.
780mm is almost Manchester's annual average.

Brightening up a bit now, radar gives a hint that this rain might be on the way out.

Constant rain since I woke this morning. Accompanied my daughter's driving practice up to Broadway for her last day at the leisure centre there before going back to uni. Probably the heaviest train she's driven in, the roads were awash. Hope it dries up later, all our plans are outdoors!

Three rumbles from the cell heading my way through Trafford Park. Hope the worst of it is misses the Pride parade in the city centre.
No, four rumbles. Nothing on the lighting detectors.

As I'm heading for the middle of the green bit for Xmas, it should be nailed for up here now!
This has happened before, 2010 I think.
