Keep an eye on this evening. Quite a bit of CAPE. WRF breaking out a lot of convective precip amongst the dynamic. Most instability I've seen for two weeks. Can we end July with something at least halfway decent?
Very heavy belt of rain just gone through here.

22.4 mm measured this morning for previous 24hrs. July total currently 312.6 mm and another day to go. This July is already the 7th wettest month since we started daily readings here for Met Office in 1968. We've never had monthly totals over 300mm during April- August before, So this is extraordinary.
Countryside and garden in an appalling mess. Is anyone managing to grow and harvest any food crops?
I've had tons of blackberries and my raspberries are the best since I planted them in lockdown. They both love good moisture and aren't bothered by the temp. Early plums were ok but not very sweet. Victorias are just coming ripe. Most of my apples seem to be getting knocked off by the wind. Squirrels got my pears very early, I think they were looking for moisture when it was dry in May/June, remember that time?
Veg-wise courgettes are good this year, just pulled out a 2kg marrow I missed! Leeks are looking good, beans growing well but not fruiting yet.
Tomaties would like a bit more warmth I think but growing strongly.

Yeah, yet another day of bleak outlook. There’s just no end to it. All the forecasters have to do at the moment is copy and paste the following:
Showers interspersed by bright spells. Perhaps a rumble of thunder. Maximum temperature, 20C.
That’s it. It’s the same every day. Poor for July. I guess this is the first month of our 11 month autumn then. August is always poor, summer is over.
Not every day, the weekend looks very windy for July, especially Sunday. West Kirby:

Anyone for 3 minutes of continuous thunder? And I only stopped the video because I got bored of holding my phone steady, was still going when I started the upload, but not by the time it finished!

Strong intensification as the cell moves through Manchester. More T&L but less torrential rain than yesterday. Lots of the lightning isn't being picked up by the detector networks.

It certainly doesn't feel any fresher here now the rain has passed

Much brighter today, sunny with bubbly clouds. Cooler than lately, I don't see the temp reaching the 20s for another week now.
I see the papers are making up an imminent heatwave again.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was actually contributing some rain to my garden, but despite cycling to work in very light rain, nothing measurable has actually fallen. What they used to call "trace" rainfall on weather reports. Instead, it's grey, cool and breezy.

Another 22mm of train out of that. If we get another lot later it could be the wettest day for a long time. Plus two strikes within 300m of the house makes up for the general low rate of lightning.

I see the enhanced lighting detection in the app still can't see any of this
My Lightning Tracker app can see it.

Very close strike, less then half a second to the thunder. Made me jump!

Very light rain here, not forecast at all. That's a good sign for tomorrow I reckon.

GFS has us quite wet late Sunday afternoon and evening.
Not much CAPE forecast so maybe more general rain.
The Met O has us on light rain then showers at the same time.

I think I've found our rain, it's in Italy.
Translation:
QuoteHow much has it rained in Italy from May 1st to today? More than 500mm in some areas. But cmq impresses that it rained everywhere, the equivalent of 5-6 months in 40 days.

My son applied, but didn't get a place. Tbh, I'm quite relieved now!
Meanwhile, we finished packing the car in light rain at 7 this morning, and have driven South in constant rain, some heavy, now we're near Huntingdon and it's still raining. Heading for the Suffolk coast, expecting strong winds around 2. Storm forecast later for there too.
