SE and East Anglia general weather discussion 11/02/2018 onwards
Stormhog replied to Captain Shortwave's topic in Regional
One of the main reasons I moved to Sussex in 2014 was to catch the storms coming over from the continent (I haven't been disappointed so far ) but at the expense of missing out on much of the snow I was used to. I have to say I'm very much looking forward to this coming week -
After getting obscenely drunk last night, I missed most of today, although the garden fence is still up - just. Here's a lovely satellite image from the DSRS, taken at 1349BST:

The air certainly smells very odd, along with the (formerly orange) now muddy yellow skies. It's quite fragrant, a bit like when you're sawing wood and you go through a knot. -

Getting decidedly orange here in Hailsham, E. Sussex. Looks more like a mid-afternoon in Winter. (Lens is a terrible mess since I dropped it on the beach during a storm chase previously, hence the blurry bits!) -

It's due to hook NE again from around 5am onwards. -

Earlier runs showed Ophelia beginning its turn more Northerly by this time. It still appears to be barreling along without any noticeable deviation as yet. -

Could you hire Toto to sing: "I felt the rain down in Bedfordshire"? Couldn't resist -

Some lovely structure on last nights storm from Pevensey. Fairly certain I've caught a wall cloud in one of these shots: -

A couple I took from last night at Pevensey Bay. Is it me, or does that structure toward the top of the frames look suspiciously like a low-hanging wall cloud? -

Cracking display last night in Pevensey Bay. Took a good few photo's but have yet to process them. For now, here's some stills from the dashcam. Off to bed! -

Have to say very impressed with accuracy of forecast. Two mcs storms, one headed N, the other should head up the Channel. Below is yesterdays 1800 run simulated IR sat image for 1200 today, (WXCharts) compared to actual sat image (vis) for 1155 (Sat24) -

Managed to get a few shots at Pevensey last night, although the rain hit and forced me under cover before the lightning came close enough to catch the spectacular crawlers that followed. -

Just got home from watching this in the Channel at Pevensey Bay. Absolute belter of a storm. Lots of crawlers, some cannon-fire cg's. I'm knackered now, will have to sort through the pics in the morning. Can still hear it booming away over Kent. -

The BBC forecasters are terrible for understating. While severe weather sites are predicting MCS's, the Beeb talk about "thundery showers". Then the next day they say: "Well, that was unexpected!" -

That line of heavy precip associated with the cells in the Channel has spread quite rapidly a few miles Eastwards in the last 15 mins or so. Are we able to post screenshots of radar / sferics on here? Or is that a copyright issue? -

Hi all, not been on a severe weather forum for many years, newbie here. I'm a very keen photographer of all things weather related, mainly, of course, thunderstorms. Based in Hailsham, E Sussex, cameras charged and looking forward to a good show tonight from my favourite lookout point at Pevensey Bay (not so crowded with cars there)
