  1. Thrips. More commonly known as thunderflies, thunderbugs, stormflies... Maybe they're a good omen for storm-chasing?
  2. At home in York we were in the firing line this morning, with a storm passing overhead at 7:30-8:00am. I'm now at work near Malton and deep rumbles are approaching once again.
  3. After the storm at Malton. Despite the brief heavy rain, the ground still looks like a desert
  4. Heavy rain over Castle Howard, Malton, North Yorks - with frequent rumbles. No strikes yet.
  5. Skies darkening and constant rumbles on approach to Malton - cameras running
  6. I have a time-lapse camera running outside whilst I'm at my desk, near the southern edge of the North York Moors. The big camera is ready to go...
  7. A couple of photos from the thunderstorms that passed by the western edge of the North Yorkshire Moors around the Thirsk area last night
  8. Yellow warning started 3 min ago. Where's my snow?
  9. Winter tyres are on I'm actually heading just north of Castle Howard. The hill up Mains Lane from Barton crossroads is probably going to be the tricky bit. The Stamford Bridge road might be the safer option.
  10. Looks like I'll have fun driving to work in the Howardian Hills tomorrow morning. Might finally get to use the snow shovel that I bought 5 years ago.
  11. Higher res whitby webcams here: http://www.wheeldale-hotel.co.uk/live-webcams/camera-one http://www.wheeldale-hotel.co.uk/live-webcams/camera-two
  12. No CG, but I just spotted a bright cloud flash on the whitby promenade cam - might be worth keeping an eye on it
  13. Just received the NW Storm Radar app notification for torrential rain in my vicinity, which is correct! That probably explains my other notification for slower than usual traffic in my area. Checked the traffic on googlemaps and it's all slowed down around here - I reckon driving visibility must be very poor at the moment
  14. Frequent flashes/rumbles and very heavy rain near Malton again. Went REALLY dark before it started. First time we've ever seen the automatic floodlights around the office come on mid-morning.
  15. That's the same storm that passed me 5min ago - I'm just a few miles west of you. Still getting lighting here, although the rain has stopped.
  16. Captured this just before it moved overhead, constant rumbles and occasional forks - tried hard but didn't capture any in a burst of over 2000 photos! Now it's very heavy rain and still rumbling on.
  17. I'm NE of York in the Howardian Hills, looking out SSW over the Vale of York, so will be keeping an eye on developments throughout the day. Looking at the radar the main activity seems to be NW of here at Thirsk.
  18. First storm cell just passed directly overhead here at Castle Howard, Malton. Second one just arrived with another big bang
