So near, yet so far. As my User Name suggests - storm activity is doing its usual Reigate avoidance routine. All stuff is west of here. I'm now setting up and lighting a rank of BBQs in the garden in the hope it will attract a few supercells.
Even our cat looks bored.
Enjoy your storms folks!

I'm roasting a chicken on my BBQ and all it has produced so far is a bit of moist mist, something is very wrong.
Lol - we must have bought cheap BBQs or something!

Clouds dispersed, looks like high pressure cap extending back into the area from the east. SE England appears to be a storm dud unless that very small, tired looking little cluster in France suddenly speeds north and turns into some kind of monster.
The only way to encourage this is to re-light our BBQ. That will ensure a catastrophic destabilisation of air mass over Surrey.

Well, had our BBQ here in Reigate and, as predicted, the moment the food went on, the clouds started to gather. Plenty of build since 2:00pm but a lot of it looks capped out and giving rain to the north and west of here. Not much sign of anything to the south, but Isle of Wight seems to be doing OK?

Met Office don't seem to consider the potential SE ingressions from France and the west as a "Yellow". So far? We're going to make sure it rains by getting the BBQ going later today. Do you think that will be enough to generate a few severe cells around our house?

Hoping for some activity creeping up over the Thames later. Would love to stand in the door way with a beer tonight.
I'm up for that! Facing west and a good clear view of the sky, and Reigate hill on my right. A lovely sheltered porch for a chair and a beer. Here's hoping!

Near Gatwick and feeling grumpy. My e-mailbox has more Met Office Weather Warning Alerts pouring in than snowflakes falling outside. And their satellite charts are off line. Nothing is happening here apart from grey skies and cold.
I think they ought to cancel some of their yellow warnings, but they won't. It's misleading people; our son's at home with his college cancelled when he could be in getting on with his projects.
I sure hope your forecasts are right for tonight here.

At last - my first cloud to cloud! Right across the sky! And BANG! Ermm - might have to switch off now. At last - it's here!

Cells to the left of me, cells to the right of me. And NOT ONE bothers to come near me! Lazy lightning, rain and, to be frank, not a lot special happening around the Gatwick / Redhill area. There are still flights heading in, though now routing around a storm cell to the south-east. To be honest, I've seen worse storms on Jackanory. I wish this would pep up a bit.
Oops! Loud rumble of thunder. Maybe it is?

SE England? If only. The storms seem to be drawing energy from the Channel. As they hit land, they are decaying. I don't know if this has enough energy to come inland much. All we might see in Surrey is rain.

Horsham? Thunder! There's hope yet for me near Redhill!

Argh I am STILL waiting Armageddon! Absolutely nothing here near Redhill, Surrey UK, apart from some distant flickers on the horizon.

And - just dropped in as a newbie.
I'm in Surrey 10 minutes north of Gatwick waiting for...anything. I've been in a lightning free zone for what feels like years. So, hello all. Now...waiting for the action to reach me and if it does, I'll yell.
Thanks for all the reports so far!

At last, here in storm-deprived Reigate, I got to watch a very nice cell chug north through Dorking (lucky lot). Plenty of cloud-to-cloud and quite frequent. Missed us (as usual). But at least a good start to 2018.
