  1. The met office YouTube forecast looks much better for most of us, snow showers far more widespread. Keep the faith peeps!
  2. Agreed, we want to see showers pushing in off of the North Sea from all over the place. Surely with the uppers and the flow there will be showers everywhere and not just the streamers. Anyone got any opinions on this?
  3. I think we're placing too much emphasis on streamers over the next few days. We haven't experienced such cold uppers in a fair few years, especially across a not overly cold north sea. I think we'll see showers forming more widely than people are thinking, you only have to look at Germany and the showers that have been pushing in off of a much colder Baltic than north sea. Streamers may well bring the best chance for deeper snow cover, but I feel pretty confident most areas of EA and the SE will at least see a covering of snow over the next few days.
  4. Just remember the models have been poor over weekends numerous times this winter (supposedly less data available) So I wouldn't worry about what they're showing again tomorrow, enjoy the start of this freezing spell and check the models again Monday onwards. If nothing has changed by then just make the most of this fantastic wintry week coming up, and watch that radar for surprises popping up out of nowhere.
  5. BBC weather really has become a joke, not one single snow symbol on that look east forecast. For lot's of people these forecasts are the only means of weather information, really is poor from the BBC. If you went by tonights forecast alone you would just think it's going to be chilly next week but nothing more.
  6. Further south the better imo, keeps us all in the colder air for longer with no chance of mild muck sneaking in.
  7. Do we feel we'll see snow showers in the SE and EA off of the north sea? Or will it be more north Norfolk and northwards as some model precip/snow charts have been showing today?
  8. BBC lunchtime weather had no mention of snow next week, just bitter and dry. Surely that's just wrong.
  9. I said the other day back, but the BBC/Countryfile forecasts are terrible compared to a few years ago. They're never so bullish about anything anymore. And those news graphics the BBC are using are simply horrible imo.
  10. Is anyone like me and finding it hard to believe that this time next weekend/start of the new week. We could be in the grip of one hell of a freeze. We've had so many disappointments over the past few years, that you just feel cautious about believing anything you see on the models. Don't get me wrong I want this cold spell as much as anyone as it looks like a proper epic cold spell. Just after all the disappointments recently I can't get excited. I know this protracted spell is different with the SSW etc, so hopefully we're truly on the cusp of something special this time with no sudden downgrades. The Beast From the East has been a long time coming, let's hope this one truly delivers!
  11. We've wanted a high to our north all winter, now knowing our luck it'll get too far north ?
  12. It's laughable really, the times we've seen them go cold for day's this winter, just to completely flip to a milder solution in one suite. The models have been poor to say the least this winter, regarding showing cold for days only to downgrade within a blink of an eye.
  13. Let's hope so, it's just hard to have much faith in the models even when they're showing cold of late. This is our last big chance of the winter, time is ticking now.
  14. All the models look pants for cold however reliable/unreliable they are. This SSW might give us a cold march, but for February I'm losing hope.
  15. Currently raining here in Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk. I just about give up on this winter, all this marginal crap just isn't fun. Even when we had -10 uppers last weekend, the snow/ice still thawed by 10am. It just seems impossible to get everything in our favour for snow the past few years.
  16. Latest BBC weather app looking decent for here tonight, however reliable/unreliable it may be. Location. Just outside Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Edit. Snow flakes also blowing around in the breeze at the moment.
  17. This so called cold spell is pathetic! Frost and Slight dusting of snow overnight, melted away before 10am. We finally have the uppers, but at the surface it's still far too mild. Even if anything falls from that front tomorrow, I just can't get excited when it'll be gone within an hour or two.
  18. We'll hold out hope! But unfortunately once we see a cold spell downgraded, and as we've seen so many times before. Once the downgrades on a cold spell begin, that process then usually accelerates rather than reverse back to cold unfortunately.
  19. The 0z runs pretty much continue the poor output from the 18z. It looks like another cold spell has been downgraded again. From days of winter wonderland charts to nothingness within a few runs, we saw it with the Easterly a week or so ago and now this Nwesterly/northerly. Trends look poor this morning.
  20. 18z looking pretty poor it must be said, hopefully we've not been lured into another cold spell only for it to be watered down as the runs progress over the next 24hrs or so.
  21. The longer the block holds on the better imo, once the Atlantic breaks through we'll be starting all over again. If this block could push further north and west slowly over the next few days output, you just never know what may happen. We shouldn't wish a block in such a position away so quickly, if by the weekend it's still modelled to be pushed away then fair enough. But if over the next few days it could just sneak a little further towards us anything is possible.
  22. The lack of cold in Europe is a shame, even if we do pull an easterly component there's nothing to tap into without waiting a week or so. Just to have had half of that cold currently in the NE states of America in Europe would have been lovely!
  23. We've waited so long (years) for these synoptics, and now we seem to finally have them it's such a shame Europe isn't colder right now. I know the cold and uppers will eventually come, but waiting makes everything that bit more of a risk imo. But if everything plays out like the 12z ECM we will be more than happy!
